Okay, it’s that time of the month, time for the monthly road trip…hey, what’s that…
Tom Green? No, I’m not talking about a Road Trip II movie, one of those was enough. Besides, you’ve been on this blog once before, maybe you should go call Drew and see if you can get booked on her talk show. Sheesh!
There’s another knock at the door…
Okay, this is more like it, it’s Scott Turley, MBIP Pal, Wheelman and official host and driver of the monthly Scott Turley Road Trip!
Always love to see the monthly t-shirt and let’s hit the road and see where this month’s road trip takes us!
There’s the many moods of Scott Turley on display behind the wheel.
This month we’ve decided that our road trip will take us to…
Haynes’ On Main in Mackinaw! I haven’t been here since 2014, so we’re overdue for a return trip!
Scott as usual, leads the way in, okay, time to start this month’s road trip afternoon!
We got seats at the end of the bar and here’s our view from where we’re seated.
Katie was the friendly and pretty bartender on duty and it turnds out we’ve met before. She worked at Kenny’s Westside Pub for years and we met there several times. Great to see her again and here what she’s been up to!
We placed our food order and now let’s take a little look around in here.
As you can see, they have a large supply of beer behind the counter and multiple taps of beer. The Taps got silhouetted out by the sunshine, so you’ll have to stop in to see what’s on tap in here.
There’s dining tables opposite the bar and here’s a shot from the other end of the long wooden bar in here.
There’s a gaming room in the back of the bar with state of the art dart machines and gaming machines for all of you gamblers out there!
There’s also a nice beer patio over here with dining tables and a bar with a view of the opposite side of the bar.
Meanwhile, back at our seats at the bar…
Our food is arriving!
We started off with an appetizer order of the Pork Belly Skewer. These Skewers were quite simply amazing!
This is one of the best appetizers I’ve ever had in my life! They’re crispy pork belly squares covered in a bourbon glaze. It’s like bacon on steroids, these were so tasty and satisfying. It’s worth the trip to Mackinaw just to sample these tasty pork cubes, trust me!
There’s Katie delivering our main courses after that unbelievable appetizer!
Scott got the single Smashburger and Fries and I chose the Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich with Fries.
Both look and smell simply fabulous!
There’s Scott dressing his Smashburger and I tried getting a shot of the patent=pending Scott Turley Big Bite but the stupid sunshine messed up the photos. I hate the sunshine!
Scott said the burger and fries were amazing!
Speaking of amazing, check out my Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich!
This is a breaded chicken sandwich, topped with coleslaw and crispy pickles on the bottom. The crispy and juicy chicken is covered in a hot honey glaze that’s equal parts sweet and heat and this sandwich packs so much flavor it’s like a buffet on a bakery-fresh toasted Brioche bun.
It didn’t take long for me to be part of the empty plate club in here!
The food here was simply top-notch! Scott and I have had so many meals on these road trips through the years, but we both agreed this was one of the best, if not the best road trip meal we’ve ever had the pleasure of devouring!
Thanks to Katie and everyone at Haynes’ On Main for a wonderful and delightfully tasty afternoon in Mackinaw, Illinois!
And thanks, as always to Scott for driving and hanging out for the day! We’ll do this again next month!
