Flores Music is a beloved and iconic Peoria business and for 45 years they did business from the same location on War Memorial Drive.
The musical business was founded by Jesse Flores and later the operations were take over by his three sons, Michael, Victor and Tony.
The Flores had an offer on their building that they couldn’t refuse and a little over a year ago, they moved into a new space on Sheridan Road which is located next to Relics.
I’ve been meaning to stop in and check this new place out and the other week I ran into Michael Flores at the grocery store and told him I’ve been meaning to stop by and do a blog at the new Flores Music location on Sheridan Road.
He laughed and told me the family had sold the business this year and the new owners were really nice guys who want to keep the Flores name alive and continue selling musical instruments and teaching people how to play those aforementioned instruments.
Okay, let’s go and not only check out the new Flores Music location, but hopefully we’ll meet the new owners as well!
To the MBIP Mobile!
While the front of the store faces Sheridan Road, the entrance is in the back…
Behind the building
There’s a nice parking lot back here and you enter the Flores Music through this back door, in true Willie Dixon fashion!
As I walked into the store, I saw a familiar face, Dan was on the couch holding a guitar!
Dan’s worked and taught music here at Flores music for years now and he said things are going great here at this new location.
Check out Dan in his ongoing, GOTD series on Flores facecrack page, it’s always a lot of fun!
Dan said he’d alert the new owners I’m here and in the meantime I should feel free to wander and take some photos of the new Flores Music Shop, so that’s exactly what I’ll do!
There’s distortion boxes, pedals and all kinds of guitar gizmos in the front counter along with a flying V guitar resting on top of it.
Mr. T says, “I pity the guitar fool that doesn’t shop at Flores Music!”
As you can see, they have a wonderful and colorful inventory of electric guitars on display in the front room.
There’s just about any style and size of guitar anyone could want in this display room!
And of course there’s plenty of amplifiers on sale as well to plug into and start shredding!
This hallway leads to the back area of the new Flores music shop and the walls are lined with guitar strings, cables, ear plugs and just about any musical accessory you can think of.
The back room has a nice selection of bass guitars and amplifiers on display.
And other musical items such as drum sets, ukuleles, foot pedals and keyboards…oh my!
There’s also an acoustic guitar room back here with a nice display of unplugged guitars.
In addition to the fine acoustic guitars on display, there’s also acoustic bass guitars and banjos on display back there for all of your picking and grinning needs!
Even if you don’t play a musical instrument, you can come in and soon be styling with a Flores Music t-shirt!
And just as I was finishing up my tour, I met the new owners of Flores Music, Cody and Dirk.
They’re two friendly and personable fellows and they said they plan to remain true to The Flores Music history of supplying the Peoria area with fantastic musical equipment and music lessons and education.
I applaud these two for keeping The Flores Music shop and tradition alive and well here in Peoria, Illinois! Stop by and show them support when you can!
