Never let it be said that we don’t take requests here at MBIP!
Last Sunday in the MBIP Coming Attractions, I stated that I wasn’t sure where to go for this weeks meal from the Northwoods Mall and that prompted this comment from my friend, Chip Joyce:
We take voting seriously here at MBIP, so Chip Joyce…this Northwood’s Mall meal is for you!
Here we are at the Northwoods Mall. I need to get a different angle of the mall next week!
In we go through the familiar entrance and after I walk my laps and before we pick up this week’s mall meal, I have a destination for some pre-mall meal photos…
And that destination is Round 1 - Bowling & Amusement Gallery.
This place is going to close in less than a month, so I thought I’d take some farewell photos for the blog while it’s on its amusement deathbed.
Too bad that it’s closing…it’s very sparkly in here!
This will leave a big hole in the mall, I’ll be curious to see what goes in this space after it closes.
This has been an MBIP Northwoods Mall pictorial I’m calling, “Round 1…And Done.”
Further proof that one is indeed the loneliest number…whatever that means!
Okay, we’re up on the second level and there’s a sign pointing to the home of this week’s mall meal, The Smoking Pit!
I love the entrance here with The Smo-King Pit pig standing guard overhead!
I placed my order and the service was great and very friendly!
And now, back to…
MBIP World Headquarters Dining Room and Tasting Area to unbox this week’s meal from Smo-King Pit BBQ!
I did the “Create Your Own Dinner” which you get two meats and two sides. Let’s check out the sides first.
——
The Sides
For my side selections I got an order of cole slaw and an ear of corn.
The cole slaw was perfect. It was crunchy, tart and had just a little sweetness as well. We’re off to a wonderful start here.
I seasoned the corn with some salt, pepper and hot sauce to give it a little kick, but even with the seasoning, the corn was kind of bland and a little mushy.
So far a hit and a miss, but let’s move on to our first meat selection…
——
Buffalo Wings
These wings look fantastic and they are sauced perfectly!
These were really flavorful and the Buffalo sauce had a little heat and a lot of flavor.
The wings were succulent and juicy. A nice bounce-back after the corn!
An now, on to the second meat selection and the item they are known for…
——
St. Louis Style Ribs
The ribs are meaty and huge and they look and smell fabulous, let’s try them out!!
Wow, they are so savory and flavorful. I love the sauce and the ribs are fall off the bone tender!
Very impressive and I loved them!

Smo-King Pit BBQ gets a high rating of 3.5 Stacy Hamilton’s. It would’ve been even higher, but the corn brought it down a little bit.
I will be back though and I’ll try a different side and see what happens then.
You should try the Smo-King Pit BBQ Restaurant. It’s locally-owned by Micheal and Michelle Citchens and they have marvelous food and service!
Thanks for the suggestion, Chip Joyce!
