Back in January, The Spotted Cow announced it was closing its doors temporarily in a facecrack post. But last week I drove by and saw a “For Sale” sign posted in the front and stopped and took some pictures.
A couple days later the Journal Star reported that it was indeed being sold, despite the fact that it still says it a temporary closing on their facecrack page and on the door of the restaurant.
I have a theory, I may be all wrong about, but let’s go over to The Spotted Cow and take a look around and then I’m going to post some photos from visits in the past I took for the MBIP Blog.
There’s the iconic Spotted Cow Sign that faces Glen Avenue.
A few feet down is the ominous “For Sale” sign.
Is this the end of The Spotted Cow as we know it?
I walked over to the building and there’s a sign saying they’re temporarily closed and to check their facecrack page for updates.
The only problem here is that they haven’t updated their facecrack page since January and it’s almost May!
I have a little theory about what might be happening behind the scenes here.
This is pure guess-work on my part and maybe a little bit of wishful thinking, but follow me down to the next text box and I’ll tell you what I hope may be happening here.
So here’s my theory: I think they may be selling the building and land but moving The Spotted Cow to another location.
Why do I think this? Well, as I said before, part of it may just be wishful thinking, but here’s what gave me this idea.
Check out the highlights portion from the Maloof listing’s page.
This ticks off a bunch of positive things about this listing, until you get to the last bulleted sentence: “Building only for sale. Business not available.”
Now I take that to mean that they’re not selling The Spotted Cow brand. The only reason I would think that they’re not selling the business is because they plan on re-opening it in another location. Maybe after this is a done deal.
Again, this is pure guess-work on my part, so time will tell.
In the meantime, I thought I’d post some Spotted Cow photos I’ve taken in the past for blogs here on MBIP.

Photos From Past Blogs - The Restaurant
As you can see, this was a spacious restaurant with lots of tables and booths for comfortable seating and dining.
They’ve got a lot of cow memorabilia in here, I’ll be anxious to see if it ends up in a new location.

Photos From Past Blogs - The Food
As you can see there was a large menu at The Spotted Cow, but I usually came for my two favorite things in here…
The Chili-Cheese Dog and…
The Italian Beef with peppers and au jus!
Both were savory and tasty treats and after I’d consume one of these delectable goodies, then it was time to move over to…
The sweet side of the menu to have a creamy smooth milkshake or a sweet and satisfying ice cream dessert.
The ice cream was made fresh here and was a such a tasty treat!
