We’re sliding into our third cheesy week and heading to a familiar restaurant, La Gondola Spaghetti House & Leonardo’s Of Peoria. I’ve gone there since they opened up in the ’70’s, but I never knew they had a grilled cheese sandwich. Someone suggested it, I checked the menu and whoomp, there it was!
They bake their bread fresh on a daily basis, so I’m looking forward to this! Off we go for our third grilled cheese sandwich!
Here we are at La Gondola Spaghetti House & Leonardo’s Of Peoria right off of War Memorial Drive.
I don’t know how many times I’ve eaten in here and never realized they had a grilled cheese sandwich on the menu!
Let’s go in and start this week’s cheesy adventure!
You order up at the front counter, but I already know what I want…a grilled cheese sandwich!
Payton came over and took our order and Wiley came over to say hi. Wiley’s a veteran of the MBIP blog and I’ve taken his picture many times through the years.
Great to see both of them!
I love the dining room and atmosphere in here. Hey, check out the fellow at that booth over there…it’s our Grilled Cheese Guest of Honor for the week…
Artie Fowler! Artie and I worked together at Fleming Potter many moons ago! Always fun to see him and hang out!
Artie not only drove, he picked up the check for dinner, thanks so much Artie! Cheers!
Of course I have to get a shot of the lit-up tree in here and the grapes hanging from the ceiling. This is such a unique and fun restaurant!
I absolutely love the gondola art all lit-up on the wall! There’s tables you can sit at if you’re waiting on an order to go.
There’s a discreet gaming area back here for all of you gamblers out there!
As I made my way back to our booth the timing was perfect because I ran right into Wiley delivering our dinner!
We started off with an appetizer order of meatballs. They were seasoned perfectly and the homemade sauce is perfection!
And speaking of sauce, we got a ladle of sauce for our sandwiches.
Nothing better than a saucy sandwich, especially with this Italian homemade sauce!
Artie got a meatball submarine sandwich, it looks so tasty!
He added a nice layer of the sauce…
A little parmesan cheese and he dove in, face-first to that delicious sandwich. He said it was out-of-this-world good!
And now, onto the star of this week’s show…

Grilled Cheese Number Three
I’ve never seen a grilled cheese like this and it looks like a cheesy slice of heaven!
There’s two types of cheese, cheddar and mozzarella and it grilled on their freshly baked bread!
Let’s dig in, I can’t wait any longer!
Of course I had to dunk it in the sauce and this was so delicious!
The bread was soft and so fresh, it felt and tasted like it had just come out of the oven and maybe it did! The cheese, bread and sauce gave it a little bit of a pizza flavor and it was a spectacular grilled cheese sandwich!

Cheesy Rating
(4 slice rating system)
I’ll give that grilled cheese a rating of three and a half slices.
An excellent and unique grilled cheese sandwich and if you order it, don’t forget the sauce!
