Mike Royko was a Chicago-based writer and columnist who wrote for the Chicago Daily News, Chicago Sun-Times and the Chicago Tribune. He covered Chicago politics, government, his beloved Chicago Cubs and helped popularize The Billy Goat Tavern, which was later immortalized in a Saturday Night Live sketch.
His daily column was syndicated and I used to read it every day via the PJ Star.
Last Thursday marked the 23rd anniversary of his death. I thought we’d honor this iconic Midwest writer with six links to online articles and one video.

Monday: Lou’s Drive-In opened up last week and I got my Saturday night meal there, it was a trifecta of chili-cheese treats along with popcorn and a butterscotch sundae!
Tuesday: We’ll be traveling back in time to the week of May 2nd, 2020 and see what was happening on the blog as the pandemic showed no end in sight last year.
Wednesday: There’s a fantastic new book coming out called “Punks In Peoria: Making A Scene in the Amercan Heartland” by Jonathan Wright and Dawson Barret and they’re doing a guest post next week right here. Stay tuned for that!
Thursday: We’ll be doing another frozen pizza review and the first one from the new MBIP World Headquarters Kitchen and Tasting Area!
Friday: We’re going to be doing the last meal at Panda Express! I can’t believe we ate the whole menu!
Saturday: We’ll revisit another Saturday night dinner in our new series!
