I haven’t been to the Northwoods Mall since June of 2020, after the pandemic hit and I started doing take-out dinners for our Saturday night features and I picked up dinner at Wing Work.
Well, I heard that there’s a fairly new pizza joint called Mr. Dough that’s opened up in the food court at Northwoods Mall, so I thought we’d make a return trip out there over a year later. So it’s off to the mall we go!
Here we are at the Northwoods Mall. I can’t believe it’s been over a year since I’ve been in here.
I went in and there’s the food court here at the mall.
And there’s Mr. Dough’s Pizza restaurant. I have no idea what Mr. Dough’s first name is, but one can only hope that it’s John.
Okay, let’s go and start this week’s cheesy and saucy journey!
There’s the menu and the specials of the day. You can order a fresh pizza pie here or you can…
Just order a slice from some pizza pies on display in the front of the restaurant.
This is something that’s not offered at most pizza pie restaurants in Peoria and we drove that point home a few years ago in this saucy post about pizza slices in Peoria.
Here’s some of the pizzas on display that you can get a fresh slice from.
They look delicious and the cheese pizza looks incredibly like a New York style pizza!
I got my slice of pizza and decided to eat it over at this table in the corner of the food court.
We’ll now check out Food Container Number One. I’m having a Harry Nilsson flashback over here!
I started off with an order of chicken wings and French Fries.
The fries were crispy and delicious and the wings were plump, juicy and nice and spicy.
This was a nice start off to this week’s pizza dinner!
Now it’s off to Container Number Two, which is housing…
This week’s slice of pizza pie! And it looks delicious, the crust is well done, just the way I like it.
Let’s take a bite out of this week’s pizza pie slice!
Wow, this is definitely like a New York slice of pizza pie!
The crust is thin and crispy and the cheese and sauce are creamy and tasty. Very nice and an impressive slice of pizza pie!
And since we’re here at the mall, I need to check on one thing. The last time I was here the gumball machines were shut down due to the pandemic.
Let’s get an update on this gummy condition…
Yes! They’re re-opened and ready to be counted!
Chad Wallace, are you seeing this?
Okay, time for this week’s MBIP Pizza Rating!
——
THE RATING SYSTEM
Any rating from 0 to 5.9 is a substandard pizza that you should definitely avoid.
A rating from 6 to 8.5 is a good pizza and gets the MBIP pizza pie recommendation.
A rating from 8.6 to 9.4 means the pizza is very high quality and you need to try it out as soon as you can.
Ratings from 9.5 to 10 represent the best pizzas in Peoria (in my opinion).
——
MBIP SCORE
——
I’m giving Mr. Dough a 7.3 rating. It was a tasty New York styled slice of pizza and well worth the trip to the mall to try out.
The owner was camera shy and didn’t want his picture taken, but he did tell me that business was bad and he may close soon if it doesn’t pick up. So stop out at Mr. Dough and help keep this local pizza parlor in business if you can!
