I know, i know, why start a Xmas blog post right after Halloween and when Thanksgiving is still weeks away?
Well it’s because Xmas is just eight week’s away and I want to encourage you to shop local for your holiday gifts. Last year hit retail hard with Covid 19, so let’s help out our local shops by spending our holiday dollars right here in Peoria!
The first shop I want to spotlight is my favorite locally-owned book shop here in Peoria, lit. on fire books.
I have a fun plan of action for this eight week series, so let’s stop on over to lit. on fire and let this holiday series begin!
Ho, ho and…ho!
Here we are at lit. on fire books on West Main Street in Peoria.
The sign says that they’re awesome, but I already know that, so let’s head on inside!
Once in, I see owner Jessica who’s looking fabulous in the back of the shop. I love the green strip in her hair!
My idea for this series is to buy an Xmas gift for an upcoming customer and Jessica told me to feel free to take photos and to look around the shop, so that’s exactly what we’re going to do!
So there and here we go!
It’s nice to see an exhibit for one of my favorite local books, Punks in Peoria by Jonathan Wright and Dawson Barrett on display here at lit. on fire.
Jessica’s selling both the book and the CD. A perfect Xmas gift for your Peoria punk rocker friend or family member!
The used and new book selection in here is unbelievable, it’s one of the largest inventories in town and Jessica has curated the shop in a classic and unbelievable manner.
It’s one of the best shops in town and deserves all of our support!
There’s vintage books for sale in here as well as brand new titles like this one by Matt Taibbi about the current state of affairs regarding the financial state of the affairs of this country.
There’s even books on carts in here to choose from!
Plus there’s t-shirts and other gift items to choose from in this unique and adorable shop.
And back behind this doorway there’s…
Even more books to gaze at and choose from!
If you can’t find a book in here to buy, then you are definitely literally challenged!
Looking at some of the fun graffiti in here, I found one from Chloe Wombacher!
I wonder if we’re related? I guess we need to queue this song up now!
This poster sums up this locally shopping post nicely! Shop locally everyone!
As I continued to look for a book to give away for this first holiday post, I found the perfect tome! “The Diary of a Drug Fiend” by Aleister Crowley!
This book could also be titled: “Marty Wombacher - The Teen Years!”
And no sooner had I paid for it and told Jessica that the next person to walk through the door would receive this book as the first gift in this Xmas series than the following person came waltzing in though the door just like Maltida herself!
It’s none other than Steve Spain, Jessica’s neighbor who owns The Costume Trunk next door to lit. on fire!
Steve’s one of the nicest guy’s in Peoria and it was a delight to present him with this Xmas gift!
Happy holiday’s to Steve and thanks to both him and Jessica for giving Peoria two fun and unique stores for a local shopping experience here in Peoria. Please support these local businesses during this holiday shopping time and beyond!
They’re what make our town unique and special, so spend your holiday dollars and cents at these places to keep them both in business!
