I just found out that The Owl’s Nest has homemade pizza. It’s been a while since I’ve been at this legendary West Peoria tavern, so I thought that this was a perfect destination for this week’s pizza pie journey.
Here we are on a rainy Sunday night. We have a special guest star joining us and there he is at the door.
His identity will be revealed when we get inside and out of this rotten rain storm!
We settled in at the end of the bar and here’s this week’s pizza pie guest star, the one and only Terry Grawey!
Terry’s been featured here on the blog many times and he’s Peoria’s only Hypnohumorist!
He’s doing one of his Hypnohumorist shows on November 19th at the Broadway Deli and Lounge and he’s the MC at Phenomenal Phil Raso’s show the next night on the 20th.
Ellie was the cute bartender on duty and here she is serving up and ice-cold bottle of Budweiser.
She took our pizza order and I abandoned Terry at the bar to go and take some photos of the Owl’s Nest on a Sunday evening.
They have a Trivia Night here every Sunday starting at 7pm.
This is Autumn and she’s the host of the Trivia sessions and you can read more about her and the other hosts from Twin Cities Trivia by clicking here.
Here’s a shot from the other end of the bar. There’s Halloween decorations up and let’s go check out the other side of the bar in here.
There’s the kitchen where our pizza is being prepared and this side of the bar is their game room.
All of the essentials for barroom fun are back here: A classic pool table, a state-of-the-art electronic dart board and gaming machines for all of you gambler’s out there!
There’s also an island to sit and enjoy drinks and food and over in the corner are more Halloween decorations.
Meanwhile, back at the bar, Ellie is serving us up our appetizer order.
We got an order of the Buffalo boneless chicken wings. They were out of the bone-in wings due to a nationwide chicken wing shortage.
Terry wasn’t too happy about this!
Okay, here’s Ellie with this week’s pizza pie!
I took a couple of pieces and we’ll let them cool. I like my pizza pie at room temprature.
While our pizza cools, we’ll do a photographic study of Terry Grawey eating pizza.
Yikes, that’s a little frightening!
Okay, on to this week’s pizza pie.
The crust is nice and crispy and just the way I like it and the cheese is rich, warm and plentiful, but there’s one thing wrong with this week’s pizza pie, there’s a definite lack of sauce.
The pizza is tasty, but there’s hardly any sauce on it, so I have to deduct points for that.
It’s not horrible and if you’re in the Owl’s Nest, I’d recommend trying it out. It’s just not something I’d go out of my way for.
Here’s this week’s pizza rating.
——
THE RATING SYSTEM
Any rating from 0 to 5.9 is a substandard pizza that you should definitely avoid.
A rating from 6 to 8.5 is a good pizza and gets the MBIP pizza pie recommendation.
A rating from 8.6 to 9.4 means the pizza is very high quality and you need to try it out as soon as you can.
Ratings from 9.5 to 10 represent the best pizzas in Peoria (in my opinion).
——
MBIP SCORE
——
I’m going to go with a 6.9 rating for the Owl’s Nest Pizza Pie.
It was thin and crispy, but there was a definite lack of sauce that brought it down. Not horrible pizza, but it could’ve been a little more saucy for my taste.
Terry was a little more generous and gave it a guest rating of 7.5.
