Most retail stores are opening back up this week and they need our support after having been shut down for the last two months. So I thought I’d start a new weekly series where I go to a local store, take a look around and make a Pandemic Purchase of the week.
We’re also going to feature an MBIP Deal of the Week, where you can get a discount just for saying, “MBIP sent me.”
I’ve always loved record stores and my favorite record store in Peoria and beyond has got to be Younger Than Yesterday on University Street.
So let’s get over there in record time! Oof, sorry about that!
Here we are at Younger Than Yesterday record shop.
Take a good look at this store-front, because things have changed here since I took this photo last Friday. Keep on scrolling and you’ll find out what I’m talking about.
I love the photos and memorabilia in the windows.
I have my mask and I’m wearing gloves, so let’s go inside.I haven’t been in a retail store since the first week of March, this is exciting!
It looks fantastic in here, as always and who is that masked man behind the counter? It’s the Lone Craig Moore! Great to see him again!
He told me to feel free to wander and take photos, so that’s exactly what I’m going to do!
Hey, hey…it’s The Monkees!
A shot from the back of the store. I love the neon Beatles light and check out the giant 45!
And of course there’s the records. Craig has the largest vinyl inventory in the tri-state area.
One of the most impressive things is the massive Mr. Spock collection! Live long and play your stereo!
If you’re a Beatles fan, you need to come and check out Craig’s Abbey Road section. Tons of vinyl from the Fabulous Four and there’s even more Beatles next to that! And he’s also got records from Apple Records, including Badfinger!
There’s even a large selection of 45 and 78 records, for you mathematicians out there.
Incense, but there’s no…well, you know what!
Ha ha ha!
The local section is fun to flip through and brings back lots of memories. Applegate & Co., Mackinaw and Kool Ray and the Polaroidz, I saw all of them play live back in my wild and somewhat scattered youth!
Of course no trip to Younger Than Yesterday is complete until you stop at the Gonn section. Gonn is Craig’s garage band he formed in Keokuk, Iowa back in the ‘60’s. The band has quite a history!
This is the song that put them on the map!
The top photo is an album Craig recorded with Slink Rand two years ago. Sadly, Slink passed on, but the music remains!
And now it’s time to announce the MBIP Local Deal Of The Week!
if you stop in the store today or tomorrow and say, “MBIP sent me”, you’ll get 10% off on all vinyl and cassette purchases!
I thought I’d start a collection of Pandemic Purchases at every store I go to. This week I got two albums from Younger Than Yesterday.
The first is “Keep The Faith, Baby” by Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. because it’s something we all need to do these days!
The second is “Gonn With The Wind”, Gonn’s 30th reunion album from 1993!
Younger Than Yesterday Store-Front Update!
Yesterday, Craig covered his windows and front door with wood. He told me it’s forty feet of wood. I responded by saying, ‘“40 Feet of Wood”, sounds like the title of a porno movie!”
This is partially a security measure, but more importantly, it’s a blank wooden canvas for what will be Peoria’s most unique and artistic store-front. I’ll be reporting on this in a week with photos that I think will blow your ever-loving minds!
Stay tuned and don’t forget to stop by and say, “MBIP sent me,” for a ten percent discount on vinyl and cassettes today and tomorrow!
