Well, this is a special week, this week marks a year into this massive chicken eating tour!
It’s actually been well over a year because of taking some breaks with the blog, we started this back in June of 2018 at Agatucci’s! Four more weeks and this is fowl tour will finally be over!
To celebrate this special week, I thought we’d take a road trip since we haven’t done that for awhile. The last one was back in August when MBIP pal and Wheelman, Scott Turley drove us to Pekin to sample some chicken at the West Dublin Pub in Pekin, Illinois.
This week we’re heading off to Emden, Illinois, a small town I’ve never been to or even heard of till now.
And as with all road trips, this one starts off with a knock at the door…
Sean Penn! We’d love to have you join us, but I know you hate having your picture taken, so I don’t think we’re going to let you come along. Scott should be here any minute and he loves having his picture taken…
Well, usually he does! Let’s hit the road to Emden, Illinois and get the cluck out of Peoria!
There’s Scott behind the wheel and we’re off! Through the miracle of the internet we’re here in Emden, Illinois in the blink of an eye. It’s magic, I tell you!
Our destination here in Emden, Illinois is the Stag R In.
Scott has a friend who lives here in Emden and told him that the Sunday fried chicken special here is delicious, so we decided to check it out! As you can see, this is quite a big place and it’s Emden’s only bar!
As usual, Scott leads the way inside to begin the 52nd week of chicken!
It’s really nice and spacious in here. Let’s go join Scott up at that massive wooden bar.
Corey served us up some beers and took our chicken dinner orders. There’s our view of the back of the bar and as you can see, the bar has a deer theme, hence the name, Stag R Inn.
There’s the quartet of taps in the middle of the bar.
There’s a large dining area behind the bar and the nightly dinner specials are posted on the wall.
Stag R Inn has lots of games in here to have fun with, they have an old school pinball and Pac Man machine next to the front door over there.
There’s also gaming machines in the corner, a long shuffleboard table lines the side wall and there’s not one, but two pool tables opposite the bar.
Meanwhile, back at the bar, Scott’s friend Phil has arrived. Scott and Phil worked together at Caterpillar for years and it was fun to hear their stories of toiling at Cat back in the day!
The condiments and napkins have arrived, so that means it’s just about…
Chicken time!
Scott and I both got two piece chicken dinners with Cole Slaw. Scott got fries and I got the homemade potato chips.
The meals look and smell fabulous, time to dig in!
There’s Scott getting ready to eat as Phil looks on.
The Cole Slaw and homemade chips were both tasty and a nice start to the meal, now on to the main clucking course!
Wow, this is really excellent fried chicken.
The batter is light and crispy and seasoned to perfection and inside the chicken is plump, juicy and tasty!
A really delicious and satisfying meal and well worth the drive to Emden to sample it!
After the tasty fried chicken dinner, Phil and Scott traded more tales about their years at Caterpillar and the stories were very entertaining!
Thanks to Phil for joining us, thanks to Scott for driving and thanks to Corey and everyone at Stag R Inn in Emden, Illinois for a great afternoon and a delicious chicken dinner!
