Back on July 16, 2015, I put up the first MBIP post documenting Trefzger’s move into their new space at 4416 N. Prospect Road. Well, over a year and about three months later, they’re open in the new space and yesterday was the first day they were open. So I set my alarm and went out at six in the morning to go take a look at the brand new site of Trefzger’s Bakery. And you can come along too, just keep on scrolling as we...
Head over to Peoria Heights in the dark. I actually like this time of day before the rotten sunshine rises. If I didn’t know any better, I’d think it was still night time and that’s a good thing! As I arrived at the new building, I saw a group of people waiting for the new place to open the doors for the first time. As always, I’m a little early so I took a shot of owner, Jeff inside through the door adding some finishing touches before the door is open to the public.
Then I went to the front of the building and got a shot through the window over here. Wow, it sure looks great in there, I can’t wait to go in and see the whole place all done!
As I went back to the door, I saw the crowd had gone inside and the door is open! Time to check out the brand new Trefzger’s Bakery! Let's go!
Wow, it looks even better in here than I could’ve imagined! I love the wooden floor and beams in here. And it’s about ten times the size of the old place! Check out the front counter displays, looks like they’ve been up all night creating the magical baked goods that we’ve all come to know and love through the years, let’s take a closer look inside these glass cases!
Wow, everything looks so good from the cookies to the cakes to the cupcakes, pies and coffee cakes! And it smells like a slice of sweet heaven in here!
As I stepped back from the cases, I saw a couple of familiar faces running around in here, it’s Trefzger’s owners, Martha and Jeff Huebner! As you can imagine, they’re very busy today, but I managed to get them to pose for a photo near the new sign and address proclamation for 4416 N. Prospect Road!
I went to go get a number and check it out, I got the first one! AOO, this is a historic moment and I plan on getting this ticket framed! Martha signed the back of it and now all we have to do is wait for this number to be called...
Well, that didn’t take long! I got a bag of cinnamon rolls for breakfast to enjoy once I’m done taking pictures in here. Most people would just stop and go home now, but I always go the extra mile for the wonderful MBIP audience, so let’s keep moving along in here!
And as luck would have it, Jeff said he’d take us back behind the scenes for some special pictures on this first day of operation, another MBIP exclusive! There’s brand new state of the art ovens back here and there’s also mixers and equipment brought over from the old store. A meeting of the old and the new and it’s great to see everything in operation here.
Here’s some of the baked goods getting ready for the cases out front. Check out the trays of thumbprint cookies before they’re frosted! And I love the colorful frosting bags to the side of the table. Here’s a shot from the back of the cake decorating area and let’s go back up front...
As Jeff and the workers greet patrons coming in and checking out this wonderful new space! There’s a couple of officers from the nearby Peoria Heights Police Department getting some fresh bakery items! Nice to take their picture for a change! (Inside joke alert!)
And as I head back out, I got a picture of the building with the sun rising behind it. It’s a brand new day for Trefzger’s Bakery and the future looks mighty sweet! We’ll see you all tomorrow!
