Ever since I started my 365 Bar blog back on January 11, 2010, my life has become somewhat of an online reality show that can be tracked back by the different posts I put up online. After the bar blog, I did two other New York blogs, Marty After Dark and Tripping With Marty that also documented my life running around in New York city. I had lost my job in New York around the same time I started the Tripping With Marty blog and after trying to find another job and getting really depressed in New York City, I put up this post on September 24th, 2012 announcing I was moving back to Peoria, Illinois, the town I grew up in and where my family and a lot of my old friends were still located. That was really a scary time in my life and I had no idea what my life was going to be like when I moved back here. Moving day for me was on October 18, 2012 and of course I took photos of that day and here they are. Sherman...set the Wayback Machine for October 18, 2012 and here we go, back in time!
These are all my belongings packed up in boxes in my apartment on 16th Street in NYC. This photo was actually taken a couple days before the 18th and the movers came and got all of my stuff. After that I checked into a hotel for about four days and then it was time to take off.
The take off started in this taxi cab and here we are winding our way through midtown. I was so nervous on this ride to LaGuardia Airport! I had lived in New York for over 19 years and wondered what my new life in Peoria would be like. Luckily, I had a few early morning beers to steady my nerves!
Here I am at LaGuardia airport and this sign still amazes me. They actually took the time to have someone design and then print and frame these snow globe warning posters up before you went through security. Up till then I had no idea that snow globes were such a threat to our national security! I wasn’t about to argue the point because by now I had several vodka drinks cruising through my system to steady my nerves. I was not only a nervous wreck about moving back to Peoria, but I also hate flying, so at this point I was feeling no pain!
Here’s shot I took flying through the sky while on a one-way trip back to Peoria. “Hey, stewardess, can I get another double vodka over here? Please and thank you!”
And here’s another one. It’s hard to believe that this Tuesday marks my fourth year back in Peoria. My plan was to move back here, get a job and then start a Peoria blog. I wasn’t sure what exactly the Peoria blog would be, or if anyone would have any interest in reading it. Well, I’m happy and thankful I got a job and the blog, which has become known as, “MBIP,” has attracted a bigger audience than I ever could’ve imagined! This blog is the longest time I’ve ever worked on a blog or a singular project in my life and there’s no end in sight! If you’re reading this, I want to thank you so much for being part of the MBIP audience and community! I have met so many new people and made some really wonderful friends while running around and having various adventures while getting material for these posts. I wouldn’t be doing the blog if there wasn’t an audience for it, so thank you so very much for reading it and for being a part of it. And believe me, without you, there wouldn’t be the MBIP blog. I’m just the messenger, without all of you it wouldn’t be a community and an entity that made the move back here all worth while. Thank you so much and here’s to the next four years! Unless I die tonight, then Scott Turley can take this thing over! Thanks so much for reading and we’ll see you all tomorrow!
