I’m always excited to do a segment on Good Day Central Illinois with Lindsey Mills, Clay Gordon and Lauren Rainson. It’s fun to do live TV and Lindsey, Clay and Lauren are real pros who always put you at ease and make sure the segment moves along nicely and of course producer Taylor is behind the scenes making sure it all goes well and it always does! Today is a special day because I’m not only going to be a guest, but my roommate, Sgt. Squeak is going to come along as well! For those of you not familiar with Sgt. Squeak, he was a birthday gift from my friend, Amber, who created him after her cat, Thurston...well...captured him. Anyway, today’s segment is on a tour I took of Paws animal shelter and since it’s about pets, I thought I’d bring him along. So let’s go wake him up and get him ready to greet the morning!
Here he is in his little apartment and I always like seeing him first thing in the morning because he’s the only person in the world more forlorn and morose than me in the morning! Top of the morning to you, Sgt. Squeak, sorry we’re both still alive, but what are you going to do?
We’ve arrived at the WYZZ, WMBD and CI Proud studios. There’s the picture of Lauren, Lindsey and Clay outside of the building and I like the obligatory shadow in the picture!
We’ll head down the hallway here and my dad has come along to hang out in the studio with us! Check it out, there’s welcome signs for both myself and Sgt. Squeak! There’s my dad watching Clay, Lindsey and Lauren while Sgt. Squeak takes a pre-show nap on top of the napkin holder. He’s not nervous at all about his big TV debut! I wonder if he has drugs in his little apartment I don’t know about and if so, why isn’t he sharing them?
Here’s Taylor and Megan who are both producers here at the station. Taylor produces GDCI while Megan produces the WMBD morning news show but today they’re cross-training, so they’re both going to lead us into the studio and here we go!
And here we are! There’s Lindsey and Clay and Lauren took an instant liking to Sgt. Squeak! I set him on the table and it’s just about showtime!
These are screen shots I took from the video which you can see online right here. As you can see, they showed my photos from the MBIP tour of PAWS and then we all took a look at Sgt. Squeak and Lindsey read his story that Amber put on the bottom of his apartment.
“Sergeant Squeak—The last reaming mouse soldier from WWII. He lost his arm and tail in combat, but his indomitable spirit keep him strong.” I love that and thanks again to Amber for bringing him to life, writing his story and letting him be my roommate at MBIP World Headquarters!
Okay, Sgt. Squeak is a little tired from all the attention, so I’m going to let him rest on this chair. There’s Clay Lindsey and Lauren at the news desk and while they’re busy it’s the perfect time to debut the latest on-going segment here at MBIP. The segment is called, “MBIP Desk Blotter” and it involves going in to a business and taking photos of peoples desks. Desks and the things that people put on them have always intrigued me, so let’s go take a look at the desks of Lauren, Clay and Lindsey right now!
MBIP Desk Blotter @ GDCI!
Desk Number One: Lauren Rainson
Lauren’s desk is right in the studio, so she is kind of self-contained in this space! It’s sparsely populated and let’s take a look at what she’s got going on at her desk.
There’s her orange hair brush, a WMBD beverage container and her cell phone and lipstick case. That pretty much covers the staples of life in three simple pictures!
On the other side of the desk is her eight day week-long forecast that she’s figured out. You can follow this along and see how close she got to forecasting the right weather! Lauren told me that she eats a banana a day and there’s the peeling to prove that and underneath the desk are a pair of psychedelic boots! The banana and boots have given me a flashback to yesterday’s post, I love it when that happens!
Desk Number Two: Clay Gordon
Well, this is certainly a lively desk! I’m a tad afraid to look much closer, but let’s keep moving along and see what all Clay has going on here!
That screen shot cracks me up and note how Lauren is covered up with folders and it kind of gives her a mutated look! There’s lots of Post-It notes below and check out the semi truck below them. There’s a framed certificate of when Clay and Lindsey were guest ringmasters at the circus and the “Bob Sat Here” sign is a reference to the fact that veteran WMBD anchor, Bob Larson used to sit at this desk and his scent is still on the phone! Well that certainly stinks...but in a good kind of way!
There’s a coffee cup in front of some of Marvis Herring’s business cards who's moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan. Over on the wall are some photos, there’s a devils head and a tree trunk that Clay chopped down himself for a news segment. And no, those boxer shorts aren’t Clay’s tribute to the Don Henley song, “Dirty Laundry,” they’re a souvenir from the Peoria Undy Run/Walk for colon cancer awareness that happened last week.
Desk Number Three: Lindsey Mills
The interesting thing about Lindsey’s desk is that everything seems to be shoved over to the left side of the desk! Let’s take a closer look!
Like Clay, she too has Post-It notes adorning the bottom of her computer and I’m wondering who that guy’s picture is? I’m going to guess that it’s her brother! Note the calendar in the second picture, the way that the word, “October” runs sideways on it would really bother me on a daily basis! There’s her purse and car keys for wanna be thieves out there to lazy to case this joint! The “Wicked” sign harks back to Lindsey’s New England roots and the lone tractor up there kind of makes me sad, so let’s keep moving along here!
She’s got a ton of photos on the walls around her desk! There’s some healing Paws photos, one of her and Clay on the GDCI set, what appears to be a St. Patrick’s Day photo and check out the last photo, I’m guessing that’s Lindsey and her mom on her wedding day! As you can see, beauty runs in the family! Thanks to Lindsey, Clay and Lauren for letting me snoop around their desks for this debut edition of MBIP Desk Blotter! We’ll see you all tomorrow!
