Back in February of this year, my friend Amber and I had dinner at The Lariat Steakhouse and after dinner I suggested we split a Brandy Alexander. Amber told me she had never had one, so we ordered one up and she was immediately hooked! A few months later we had another ice cream drink at Sky Harbor and then later, Amber’s boyfriend, Joe mentioned that Jonah’s Seafood House has great frozen drinks, which I never knew. All this chilly information can only lead to one thing: Frosty Ice Cream Drink Tour!
Before we took off, Amber came over to the MBIP World Headquarters and here we are with our official Ice Cream Journal Notebooks that we’re going to use to make notes of the evening’s tour.
The books are labeled and it’s time to take this chilly show on the road!
And we’re off and headed to our first frozen location which is...
Stop Number One: Jonah’s Seafood House And Oyster Bar
We decided to sit at the Oyster Bar and there’s Amber hard at work in her ice cream journal already!
We explained to bartender Andrew that we were on an ice cream drink expedition and asked him to make the best ice cream drink that Jonah’s has to offer. As you can see, he quickly swung into action!
Andrew decided to whip up a Brandy Alexander. The drink is being expertly made and blended and a dollop of fresh whipped cream is the finishing touch.
It looks and tasted fantastic and we’re off to a great start!
Notes from our journals:
# of children in bar: 1.
It’s crowded in here and it smells of the sea!
I don’t know what Brandy tastes like, but this seems like it.
The whipped cream makes it.
I print like a retard.
The Official Rating!
Amber: Three (out of four).
Marty: Three.
For a combined total of Six “Safe As Milk” Captain Beefheart album covers.
Stop Number Two: Sky Harbor Steak House
I love the bar at Sky Harbor!
And now we are three as Joe has joined us at the bar. Welcome aboard this frosty tour, Joe!
The Klusendorf clan consisting of Daryl, Ryan and Ellen are making a game plan concerning what kind of ice cream drink they’re going to make for us tonight.
Here’s Ryan springing into action to blend up the drinks.
Ryan made us three Grasshoppers and the presentation of the drinks is beautiful and they're really tasty! Nice work!
Notes from our journals:
Thinner than BA - easier (faster?) to drink.
Lots of booze!
Fake mint, but garnish and style was good.
I print like a retard!
The Official Rating!
Amber: Two.
Marty: Three and a half.
For a combined total of Five and a half “Safe As Milk” Captain Beefheart Covers.
Stop Number Three: Lariat Steak House
There’s Amber at the bar next to Joe hard at work on her journal!
We decided to have a beer as a palate cleanser and here’s bartender Tim serving up an ice-cold Budweiser. We also got an appetizer sampler, but I’m leaving the food pictures out so we can just focus on the ice cream drinks tonight. To see further pictures of each place we stopped at, just check out the “Related Posts” at the bottom of the page.
Just like Sky Harbor, Tim decided to whip us up a Grasshopper and here he is in action!
Who says it ain’t easy being green? This was a delicious drink!
Notes from our journals:
Tastes like a Girl Scout thin mint cookie w/o the Christ and over the top feminism.
The bar is bright.
Reminds me of the pink/pastel soft mints in a bowl you get at Easter. They start out hard but after a few seconds become soft and milky.
Brain Freeze!
The Official Rating!
Amber: Three.
Marty: Three.
For a combined total of Six “Safe As Milk” Captain Beefheart Covers.
Stop Number Four: Emack & Bolio’s and The Navy-Marine Club
We wanted to end the night at the Navy-Marine Club but knew that they were ice cream drink challenged as they don’t have a blender or ice cream. So we stopped at Emack & Bolio’s to fix the ice cream portion of this problem.
And here’s Emack co-owner and MBIP Spiritual Guru Tim Hennessey being electrified by this idea. He suggested we go with vanilla, as it would blend most easily in any kind of drink. So that’s what we got, thanks Tim!
Here we are at the Navy-Marine Club.
I love the dark blue atmosphere in here. And check out the lower left hand corner, there’s Amber hard at work in her ice cream journal. I love it!
Since they didn’t have a blender, we got one and donated it to the club. I’m going to come back twelve more times for a new series of blended drinks at the Navy-Marine Club, so stay tuned for that. Mark wasn’t sure what to make, so Joe found a recipe online for an ice cream drink called a Mudslide. Nice team work!
And here’s Mark making the first-ever ice cream drink in the Navy-Marine club! Historic times!
The drinks are poured...
And they’re delicious! Mark did a great job mixing and blending them and the Emack & Bolio’s ice cream really took them over the top!
Notes from our journals:
Mudslide aka Liquid “Dude” - but Marty doesn’t know Lebowski.
Mudslide.
The Official Rating!
Amber: Four.
Marty: Four.
For a combined total of Eight “Safe As Milk” Captain Beefheart Covers. Just remember though if you go here for the Mudslide, you need to get the ice cream at Emack & Bolio’s first!
Our Ice Cream Journals
Amber did a great job with her Ice Cream Journal. In addition to great notes, she also made logos for each stop and she also did specialized ratings for each drink. Wonderful work, Amber!
I however print like a retard!
Thanks to Amber for driving and being the co-judge in the tour and to Joe for joining us and to all the restaurants for being great sports and making up some fantastic frozen ice cream drinks! It was a frosty and fun tour! I highly recommend them all!
