Okay, Pete Clarno, has invited us to go sample the chili dogs at his bar, The No Wake Zone on Galena Road. He said he’s been working on his own recipe and slowly perfecting it and he thinks he’s ready to try and kick the Hofbrau House’s ass. Well, that’s a mighty tall claim, so let’s see if he can make good on it. Ringo...sound the battle drums. Khaaaaaan!
Right out of the car we spy a familiar face, it's Linda, Pete Clarno's wife and co-owner of Now Wake Zone. She informed me that Pete got called away out of town due to an emergency type situation I don't want to get into right now, but I don't want to do this without Pete around, so being the Commander-In-Chief of the Peoria Hot Dog Wars, I'm calling a temporary cease fire and we'll just relax here today and enjoy some appetizers and come back in two weeks for a hot dog battle.
Let's go around here to the side of the building...
And walk the plank into the No Wake Zone.
If you look real close you'll see an accidental obligatory front door mirror shot happening as we walk in.
And here's Linda, behind the bar, she's everywhere!
It's all women on duty today and here's the three lovely ladies of the No Wake Zone on this hot dog free Sunday edition: Crystal, Linda and Shesna. Shesna looked familiar and then I remembered we met her back when we went to Pitcher's bar for two beers a couple of months ago.
I have guest stars joining me this week, so we're sitting at a table instead of the bar and here's Crystal taking our drink order. And who are these mysterious guests, you're wondering?
Why it's these three fabulous looking friends of mine. From left it's: Clare, Steve and Kathy. I love the Home Shopping Network pose they've struck for this photo, we may see this pose again further down the post, stay tuned and keep on scrolling, scrolling, scrolling.
Here's the beers on tap, let's see what sort of rating they get on the Spike-O-Rama meter.
As I take a long shot of the bar up in front, I think I see another familiar face at the end of the bar...
It's Scott Senti, owner of the 50's Diner that we visited a while back on MBIP. Good to see him again!
Some of the specials of the evening at the No Wake Zone.
Here's a shot of the dining room from back by the bar area.
Last time I came here it was in the dead of winter and the deck wasn't getting much use, well it's summertime now, so let's go out and take a look.
Wow, it's really nice out here.
There's a great view from the railing here...
See what I mean?
Meanwhile, back at the table the appetizers are served...
We got the mozzarella sticks and the chicken wings and if the hot dogs are as good as these wings, the Hofbrau House should be getting a little nervous. We'll come back here on the 24th to try Pete's new chili dog recipe, stay tuned and may the best dog win!
Remember that second Home Shopping Network style photo I promised from Clare, Steve and Kathy? Well, here it is, cheers and we'll see you all tomorrow!
