One place I knew I had to go to on this sweet doughnut tour was Carl’s Bakery & Restaurant in East Peoria.
I haven’t been there in a few years and I’m anxious to get over there not only to get some of their legendary bakery treats, but also to see the giant rooster out front!
So let’s make like a doughnut and roll on over to Carl’s Bakery & Restaurant!
Here we are at Carl’s Bakery & Restaurant in East Peoria. They’ve got a Xmas wreath on the side of the building, very festive!
And of course we have to take a picture of the iconic giant rooster out in front of the building!
What a wonderful, historic East Peoria landmark!
There’s the front window and I went in and found out something that I had no idea of…you’re not supposed to walk inside of here anymore…
They’ve been 100% curbside service since 2020. You have to either phone in advance or call your order in from the parking lot, the number is on the side of the building (it’s also at the end of this post).
They told me if I went back to my car, they’d send someone out to take my order, so it’s back to the car we go!
Doug came out for my order and I told him to pick the two best doughnuts they had inside. I tod him the choice was his!
I’m anxious to see what we end up with!
While we wait, here’s an inside of the car photo!
Wow, that was quick! Doug said he picked out two of the most popular doughnuts they sell!
I’m anxious to see what those are, but before we leave here, we must do one more thing…
And that’s get one more shot of the giant rooster! Bye, bye giant rooster, see you on the next doughnut tour!
Okay, we’re back at MBIP Word Headquarters and check out the doughnut box, it says, “Daylight Donuts” on the front and on the side is a rooster saying, “Something To Crow About.”
But it’s a rooster…not a crow…oh well, let’s just move along and not obsess over this!
Let’s take a look at the doughnuts that Doug picked out for us…
Wow, these are certainly unusual looking doughnuts!
They look very tasty though, let’s try them out!
I’m guessing this one is cherry flavored but let’s take a bite to find out! It looks amazing!
Oh my godzillas…this is so sweet and tasty!
It is cherry with a light drizzling of icing on top. It’s really light and oh so delicious!
This one has more icing on top and is a thin pastry, but it looks like a fantastic sweet treat!
Wow, this is equally amazing! It’s a thin, sweet and tasty pastry treat!
It’s got cinnamon and maple flavors happening and a little bit of a sweet semi chocolate filling inside.
Wow, these were two fabulous pastries!

Doughnut Rating
These two were pastry styled doughnuts and what sweet treats they were!
I’ll give them a well-deserved high rating of three and a half Mr. Donuts!
Thanks to Doug for choosing two delicious pastry-styled doughnuts for this week!
