Live, from Peoria, Illinois, it’s Saturday Night starring this week’s host, Richard’s Under Main and featuring special guest stars, Carol, Patrick, Jill and Lucas.
Now, please welcome from beautiful downtown Peoria, this week’s host: Richard’s Under Main!
This is Richard’s Cafe on Main Street, which is open for breakfast and lunch, Monday through Friday, 7am to 2pm.
It’s a little after 8pm on a Saturday night, so this is not our destination tonight, maybe one of these days for a Lunch At First Bite post.
This is our destination tonight, Richard’s Under Main. This place has just re-opened after being shut down since 2018!
It feels great to be heading down these stairs again to this legendary underground Peoria restaurant and bar!
And check out the sign, how did they know we were coming here tonight?
Wow, it looks great in here, just like it was never closed! The bar looks fantastic and I love the brick and rustic feel down here!
I saw a familiar face over at the corner VIP table and it was none other than Raul Salazar who’s the co-owner here along with Scott Wood.
Raul says business has been great and everyone is excited about the re-opening of this historic space.
I went to go grab a seat at the end of the bar and ran into Carol and Patrick Haynes who own Haynes On Main in Mackinaw.
I met Carol back in 2014 when I had dinner at Haynes on Main with my friend Nancy. Wow, that was almost nine years ago, I need to stop in there again soon! Stay tuned for an upcoming post from Haynes on Main.
It was great to see both of them and we had a fun chat and visit at the bar!
I checked out the menu and Jill delivered me a beer and took my dinner order. I love it when that happens!
Here’s the front of the bar and as you can see, they have a great selection of beers on tap.
There’s tables off to the side of the bar along the brick walls with some cool historic Peoria photos hanging above them.
An impressive brick fireplace leads the way into the dining room with booths on one side and tables in the middle and lining the far wall.
I love the tin ceiling in here!
In addition to the historic photos, there’s new art from local artist, Devon McGlone.
I love the new chalk art and there’s a fantastic mural on the back wall highlighting memorable moments in Peoria’s historic timeline.
The lower room is still under construction, so we’ll have pictures of this room on our next visit here! This place is still somewhat of a work in progress!
Meanwhile, back at the bar, it looks like it’s just about time for our Saturday night dinner!
Head chef and kitchen manager, Lucas Woith came over and said hi and said dinner was on the way!
He was right, here it is!
I started off with a salad and the main course is a Prime Rib steak smothered in onions and mushrooms with a side of onion rings and Texas Toast!
It looks fantastic and the salad was a great way to start it off!
Now on to the main course!
The onion rings were unbelievable. They’re deep-fried in a homemade beer batter and are crispy rings with a delightful flavor!
The Texas toast was tasty and it was grilled and buttered on both sides of the toast! It’s little things like this that add up to a wonderful and tasty dinner!
The Prime Rib was tender, succulent and so flavorful and delicious!
The onions and mushrooms added to the flavor and it was a savory and delicious cut of meat!
And if you’re a night owl, the food is served here till four in the morning!
Nice to walk up the steps and out on to Main Street and see that sign glowing again!
Hey, check out the goodnight wishes! So nice to see and I’ll be back!
Fantastic to have this place open again. Stop by and show them some love and support!
