One of the main exhibitions that recently opened in The Peoria Riverfront Museum is titled: “Body Worlds Rx - Prescriptions For Healthy Living.”
This unique exhibition has broken attendance records for the last twenty years and has been seen by more than 50 million people worldwide. And now it comes to Peoria, so I went to the Peoria Riverfront Museum to take a look at this exciting new exhibition that’s rolled into Peoria!
Come along and let’s check it out!
Here we are at the Peoria Riverfront Museum on Washington Street in beautiful downtown Peoria.
This is one of the most unique buildings in Peoria, inside and out!
Okay, let’s climb the stairway to the museum and see what’s happening inside!
I love their lobby area with the giganzo globe hanging down from the ceiling!
There’s artwork for the Body Worlds display mounted on the wall.
I went up to the front desk and Jen and her niece were working behind it and got me all set up with a ticket and wristband and they even pointed me in the right direction to the exhibition.
Everybody working here are always so friendly, fun and nice!
Here we are at the Body Worlds exhibit, let’s turn the corner and take a first look!
Wow, this is so cool! I don’t think I can do it justice with words, so I’ll use some of the descriptive passages from the Peoria Riverfront Museum’s page on this exhibit.
Anything in italicized text is from the Peoria Riverfront Museum’s page, starting with the text below!

Created by German physician and anatomist Dr. Gunther von Hagens, inventor of Plastination and Dr. Angelina Whalley curator of the trailblazing BODY WORLDS exhibitions, the exhibition features real human specimens preserved through Plastination, a technique that removes the fluids from the body and replaces them with plastics that harden.
The specimens on display show impressive comparisons and contrasts between healthy bodies and organs from those stricken with disease.
Particular emphasis is put on some of the most common ailments such as back pain, arthritis, cancer, diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular diseases like arteriosclerosis and heart infarctions, dementia and more.
Visitors to BODY WORLDS RX will see one hundred real human specimens including iconic whole body plastinates like The Smoker.
All specimens are preserved by the revolutionary process of Plastination, invented by Dr. Gunther von Hagens.
Interactive elements include the "Anatomical Mirror", where visitors will see how vital organs are positioned in their own body and the "Tobacco Body", a time-lapse of smoking's impact on the body.
The organizers of BODY WORLDS RX believe that when people understand more about how the body works and how it can break down, they are more likely to choose healthy and sustainable lifestyles.
We also hope it will inspire visitors to learn more about the life sciences. Knowledge about what the human body looks like and how it functions is basic life science information that should be available to everyone.
The final stop is titled, “Secrets of Longevity.”
Here people share their secrets for a long life…hey, how did that last one get in there?

Sidebar Number One: The Search For Joan Jett
When I told a friend of mine I was going to the Peoria Riverfront Museum, she told me to look for Joan Jett while I was in there.
I asked her what she meant and she just laughed and said I’d have to find her on my own.
I noticed the Heart exhibit right next door to the Body Worlds exhibit and thought I’d wander over. Her band is the Blackhearts after all!
I wandered into the exhibit and noticed a wall of heart art and sure enough, there’s Joan Jett’s first album on display complete with a black heart! How very cool!
I love Rock ‘n Roll, Joan Jett and the Peoria Riverfront Museum!
Sidebar Number Two: The Art Of Chris Holbrook On Display
I love the fact that my friend, Chris Holbrook’s art and memory live on at the Peoria Riverfront Museum.
You can see additional photos and read more about his Currency Series 1999-2018 by clicking here.
I stopped in the gift shop on my way out and got a refrigerator magnet and a PRM shot glass. The shot glass is designed by my friend, Chelsie Tamms!
Chelsie’s living in Chicago now, but it’s always great to see her work still in Peoria!
Thanks to the Peoria Riverfront Museum for yet another fun afternoon in their informative and always entertaining museum!
