Hard to believe that we’re up to week number seventeen on this grilled cheese tour! It looks like will be finishing up in late August or early September. This has flown by!
This week we’re meeting a special guest star at MD’s Sports Bar & Grill in Pioneer Park. This special guest star has never been on the blog and I’ve never met him before. We were introduced on social media and I invited him to join me on this cheesy tour.
So let’s get over to MD’s and meet this special guest and the 17th grilled cheese sandwich!
Here we are at MD’s Sports bar and grill on University Street near Pioneer Park. People in and around my age will remember this as the from home of the Silver Bullet which was in operation here for quite some time.
Okay, let’s go on in and the 17th week of this cheesy tour!
Ha! Speaking of the Silver Bullet, they still have a tribute to the former tavern by keeping this door from the Silver Bullet days swinging! Nice!
They have a nice vintage wooden bar in here, but since we’re dining with a guest, we’ll grab that table over there.
No sooner did I get settled than owner, MaryBeth came over and delivered an iced tea.
She said things have been going great and told me that MD’s has been in this location for seven years! That surprised me, it seems like they just opened up! As I always say, fun flies when you’re having time!
I’m early, as always, so we’ll run around and take some photos until this week’s cheesy guest star gets here.
There’s the quintet of beers on tap behind the bar and a wooden island separates the bar and dining areas.
They have an old school Jurassic Park pinball machine in here and next to that is a row of gaming machines for those of you in a gambling mood.
There’s a side game room opposite the bar with a pool table, state-of-the-art dart boards, a boxing game and a vintage scoreboard.
There’s the Daily Specials board and the entertainment schedule for the live entertainment in here.
MaryBeth told me that they expanded the beer garden in the back and I was amazed at how huge it is out here!
Meanwhile, back at our table…
This week’s guest star has arrived! This is Jerad McKeown and Jerad is a Multimedia Account Executive for the Peoria Market of Cumulus Media.
Cumulus Media is national company that owns and operates radio stations and podcasts across the country and they have five stations here in the Peoria area.
Jerad told me the company can set you up with advertising packages, they build websites, can help or run social media, help with Google’s search engine and much more. If you have a business that you would like to expand and grow, you can contact Jared via his email.
We checked out the menu and they have a trio of grilled cheese sandwiches in here! I’ve never seen that before!
Both Jared and I ordered the Gourmet Grilled Cheese which you will see if you just scroll down to the next photo…
Mine is the top sandwich and I opted out of the tomato, but Jerad went full boar and got tomato offering as you can see in the bottom sandwich.
They look fabulous!
The sandwich has four slices of cheese and I believe the cheese is cheddar and swiss. It also has bacon, sliced pickles and onions on grilled Artesano bread.
What a unique take on a grilled cheese sandwich! Let’s dig in!
Wow this is a fantastic grilled cheese sandwich. The smoky bacon is savory and the onions and pickles add a nice flavor and crunch to the grilled sandwich but the dominant flavor is the cheese with the four slices of mixed cheese giving the sandwich a rich and creamy flavor.
It’s housed in the bakery fresh grilled Artesan bread which is similar to Texas toast.
This is one unique and flavorful grilled cheese sandwich!
Jerad loved the sandwich and said it was probably the best grilled cheese he’s ever had!

CHEESY RATING
(4 Slice Rating System)
MD’s grilled cheese gets an excellent rating of three and three quarter slices.
This is a really unique take on a grilled cheese sandwich and they also offer one with just bacon and one with cheese only for all you grilled cheese purists out there!
It was great to meet and hang out with Jerad and I’m sure you’ll see him on the blog again!
