While it’s not quite officially summer yet, it’s close enough for me! We started a new summer series here on MBIP a couple weeks ago where I’m going to be sampling some of the summer fare in and around Peoria.
We started this series at Ernie’s in downtown Peoria and I’ve tweaked the idea a little bit, every stop will now include a sweet and a savory treat! The next stop is at Theo’s, yet another classic summer stop but you can get a treat there in the chilly months as well, as it’s open year round.
Here we are at Theo’s on Gale right off of Sterling. I have no idea how long Theo’s has been standing tall on this corner, I would guess at least 20 to 30 years.
I’ll have to ask next time.
They have photos of some of the savory sandwiches and entrees on the window.
There’s also a menu on the outer wall and inside the building. As you can see, there’s lots of choices!
Michelle was behind the screened window. She lifted the screen, took my order and posed for the MBIP Camera while flashing a beautiful smile!
Here’s some photos I took while waiting for my order, I love the penguin eating the ice cream cone!
There’s a couple tables off to the right of the building and more over in the parking lot.
I chose to plop down at a table in the parking lot. There’s my sweet and savory treats and I started off with a nice long, sip of a vanilla milkshake.
It was cold, frosty and delicious.
For my savory treat I got a pork chop sandwich. You know, I don’t think I’ve ever had a pork chop sandwich in the ten plus years I’ve been doing this blog!
I got it with mustard and onions and it was a savory, tasty treat!
The pork chop was juicy and nicely complimented by the mustard and onions. The bun was bakery fresh and this was a great, simple sandwich, packed with flavor.
For my sweet treat, I got a peanut butter sundae complete with whipped cream and chopped nuts.
Here’s a bird’s-eye-view of it and it looks wonderful! It’s starting to get all melty from the heat and that’s a beautiful thing, let’s dig in!
You know, I’ve never had a peanut butter sundae on the blog either, this is a day of firsts for MBIP!
The ice cream was rich and creamy and the peanut butter was smooth and…dare I say it…sweet!
A wonderful summer stop at Theo’s, if you haven’t been for a while, go get a summer treat today!
