One thing I love about doing this blog is the new discoveries I make around Peoria. When I asked for suggestions for places to get a grilled cheese at on my facecrack page, several people suggested Donna Jean’s Cafe in Two Sisters and a Warehouse space.
I didn’t even know there was a cafe in there, but we’re going to go take a look at it soon and sample our fourteenth grilled cheese! Let’s hit the road!
Here we are and this place has a familiar feeling for me. I worked here in 1980 when this was Eppel Furniture!
Anybody remember Eppel Furniture? Anybody? Anyone? Bueller, Bueller, Bueller…
Alright, that sure is a welcoming door, let’s go inside and begin the fourteenth week of this grilled cheese tour!
Wow, it’s huge in here and the place is jammed with all kinds of unique and interesting items.
We’ll take a look around in a minute, but first let’s get our grilled cheese order cracking!
Donna Jean’s Cafe is located in the middle of the store. I checked out the menu and they have four styles of grilled cheese!
I almost got the Sloppy Joe grilled cheese, but then I saw that the soup of the day was Cream of Tomato Basil, so I got a grilled cheese with bacon. I want to dip the sandwich in the soup and I thought that might be difficult with the Sloppy Joe version.
Morgan was working behind the counter and she took my order and flashed a beautiful smile for the MBIP Camera!
There they are getting to work on this week’s grilled cheese lunch!
You seat yourself in here and I found this table tucked away in the corner.
Hey, check out the sign on the table! How did they know we were coming here?
While our grilled cheese lunch is being made, we’ll take a look around in here. There is so many interesting and fun treasures to be found in here!
Check out the phone in the last picture, a young person would see that and think, “How the hell would you fit that in your pocket?”
If you’re into music, they have all the classic items in here, vinyl, CD’s and cassettes. This is a real musical trip back in time!
Meanwhile, back at Donna Jean’s Cafe, a glass of iced tea has be brought to my table. The grilled cheese lunch can’t be far behind!
And, whoomp, there it is!
I got a grilled cheese sandwich, the creamy tomato basil soup and for dessert I got an order of corn fritters!
Everything looks amazing!
I put a nice dollop of pepper on the creamy tomato basil soup and tried a spoonful.
It’s rich, creamy and delicious! Kind of has a cheesy undertone and it will be a perfect dipping sauce for the grilled cheese sandwich.
Speaking of the grilled cheese sandwich, here it is in all of its glory!
It looks fabulous, it’s cooked well-done, just the way I like it and there’s lots of melted cheese and a good amount of bacon on the sandwich.
Let’s dig in!
I dunked it in the creamy tomato basil soup and it was so rich and delicious!
As I said it was grilled to a well-done texture so it was nice and crispy on the outside and the cheese was melted and rich and there was a lot of smoky bacon which added a nice flavor to the mix.
This is a really tasty grilled cheese sandwich and it was complimented so nicely with the creamy tomato basil soup!
For dessert I had the corn fritters and they were amazing!
They were deep-fried orbs of delicious delight! The fritters were covered with a dusting of powdered sugar and they were simply fantastic.
A sweet treat to finish off this fabulous grilled cheese meal!
