I keep a list of possible ideas for the blog and a couple years ago I read an article in the PJ Star about a coffee shop/bistro that was being built at the time. What interested me is that the building was made out of shipping containers! The name of the place is Coffee Can Bistro and it opened up a few months after that article was published.
A couple weeks ago I found their facecrack page and was thinking about going their for a luncheon post. So I looked at the lunch and dinner menu and lo and behold, I saw four magical words: Grown Up Grilled Cheese!
So the Coffee Can Bistro got shifted from my MBIP lunch list to the MBIP grilled cheese list.
Today they’re the fifth stop on this 23 grilled cheese tour and they also are the first spot out of Peoria for this cheesy tour! Hanna City’s not far, but we do have a grilled cheese guest who volunteered to drive and that person is…
My friend Steven. Great to see him and I appreciate him volunteering to drive. I checked Google Maps and from my apartment it’s just a hair over 14 miles. The estimated traveling time was 17 minutes.
Well, both Steven and I are…how should I put this…directionally challenged, so we got there in about 45 minutes!
Hey, better late than never!
Here we are at the Coffee Can Bistro in Hanna City!
Wow, this is such a cool and unique building!
As I said, the outside of the building was made from shipping containers! Let’s go in and start this cheesy adventure!
There’s a front counter when you come in and that’s where you order. There was a nice sign off to the right and Kaleb was working behind the counter and took our grilled cheese orders.
He’s a friendly guy and told me to feel free to take as many photos as I want. So let’s take a look around in here while our grilled cheeses are being prepared.
The front room room has long highly polished wooden communal tables and there’s a bar with chairs that look out at the parking lot and cars buzzing through Hanna City.
I love the logo on the wall over here!
There’s a second floor so let’s go up and take a look at what’s up here.
Wow, it’s a nice and comfortable lounge up here complete with a nice view and a faux fireplace.
Outside is a large patio with lots of picnic tables and chairs, very nice!
Meanwhile, back on the first level, we settled in at a table because it’s just about…
Grilled Cheese time!
The Adult Grilled Cheese description on the menu said: Thick cut bread, cheddar cheese, bacon, tomato, garlic aioli and peach compote.
Garlic gives me heartburn, I’m not a fan of tomatoes and to be truthful, I don’t really know what peach compote is…but I don’t think I want it on my grilled cheese!
I asked Kaleb if I could just get the grilled cheese with bacon and he said that was no problem.
Steven got the works, except for the peach compote. He couldn’t pull the trigger on whatever that is either!
Wow, it looks so good and there’s a lot of bacon on this…mmm…bacon.
Steven loved his and said it was quite tasty!
This is a delicious grilled cheese!
The thick cut bread is fabulous because it’s crunchy on the outside and pillowy soft and bakery fresh on the inside.
The cheddar cheese was creamy and rich and the smoky bacon was…mmm bacon.
And now, time for…

The Cheesy Rating
(4 Slice Rating System)
It was a great grilled cheese and I’ll give it a rating of three and a quarter slices!
This is really a cool place with a nice selection of coffee, tea and a full menu. I’ll definitely be returning to try out some other items on the menu!
Thanks to Kaleb at the Coffee Can Bistro for the fabulous service and to Steven for driving and being the grilled cheese guest star of the week!
