Live, from Peoria, Illinois, it’s Saturday Night, starring this week’s host, Blue Duck Barbecue Tavern with special guest stars, Tim and Colleen Carey, Nova, Kristin, Ivan and Tony!
Now please welcome, from Peoria’s Riverfront off of Water Street, this week’s host, Blue Duck Barbecue Tavern!
Here we are at the Blue Duck Barbecue Tavern, housed in the former River Station building.
We’ll mosey in to the foyer, which leads to the hallway entrance, which handily will lead us straight to…
The bar! I think I see tonight’s two special guest stars seated over there…
My friends Tim and Colleen Carey!
Great to see them and they’ve been featured not only on the MBIP blog when we had a Butch’s Pizza party at The Red Barn, but they made several appearances on my 365 bars blog! Here’s one of them. Hard to believe that was thirteen years ago!
If you haven’t figured it out yet, Tim’s father, Butch, was the founder of Butch’s Pizza, Peoria’s most popular frozen pizza. Tim and his brothers, Steve and Greg run Butch’s these days and I recently reviewed Butch’s Pizza on my Midwest Slice of Life YouTube channel!
Great to see them and have them back as guest stars on the MBIP blog!
I hope I have these names right, some of them I wrote down but some I didn’t, but here goes.
That’s Tony, the owner and operator of Blue Duck in the center and he’s surrounded by his staff of wonderful and friendly people. Clockwise from left: Nova, Ivan and Kristin.
Great to meet all of you and thanks in advance for the great service!
We checked out the menu and soon…
We placed our order with the bartender. She was busy and declined to have her picture taken, so here’s a picture of Moe the bartender from The Simpsons! Hooray!
As you can see, they have a great selection of beers on tap, behind the bar.
Tables for two line the wall opposite the bar.
The main dining room was packed on this Saturday night!
Meanwhile, back at the bar, which was equally packed…
Dinner is served!
Tim got the Brisket Philly sandwich with a side of Mexican Rice. Below that is Collen’s meal which was the Banh Mi sandwich with a side dish of the Warm Bacon Potato Salad and Coleslaw.
They both loved their meals and raved about how tasty they were!
I got an order of the Smoked Then Fried Wings in Asian Buffalo Sauce and a side order of the Warm Bacon Potato Salad.
If you follow this blog, you know that I’ve eaten about everything on the menu here through the years. I’ve never had a bad meal here and these are my two favorite items on the menu.
The chicken wings are the biggest wings you’ll ever have and the way they smoke and then fry them gives them a unique and delicious flavor. They are the most original wings in Peoria and I love them!
The Warm Bacon Potato Salad is also a delicious and flavorful treat that can only be had at the Blue Duck Barbecue Tavern!
Of course I had to take a picture on the way out of the fox with the top hat and pipe. It always makes me think of this scene from one of my faovrite movies, Best In Show.
Thanks to Tim and Colleen for joining me for dinner and to everyone at Blue Duck Barbecue Tavern for a tasty Saturday night dinner in downtown Peoria!
