I was driving down Prospect Road last week and saw a business I had never seen before in a spot that I’ve done a couple blogs on in the past. It’s a car stereo business called Sound Of Peoria and I decided to stop in and take a look around.
The first thing I noticed was the sign, “Sound Of Peoria.” I actually drove past it, then circled back to see what it was.
So I parked and walked around the building.
I’ve done two blogs from this building in the past. The first was back in 2014, when photographer Keith Cotton had his photo studio here. Three years later I went there after Keith had left and it had become The California Style Fitness Studio.
Now it’s The Sound Of Peoria and I’m realizing it’s a car stereo business.
Let’s go in and take a look around.
Here’s the front room…
It’s loaded with speakers and other car stereo gear. Pretty impressive!
This is the owner, Mike Price. Mike told me that Sound Of Peoria has been in business for years. It was originally owned by Byron and Debbie Yang and Mike managed the store.
Last June Mike bought the store and moved into this location in October. He told me the previous tenant was a barber. Somehow I missed that one!
The car stereos and speakers are installed and worked on in the garage/work station area beyond that door.
An installation is happening right over there.
The check-out counter is tucked away in the corner over there and there’s a price list hanging opposite on the wall.
I haven’t been in a car stereo shop in years and it was a fun stop that had a bit of a throwback feel to it.
If you’re looking for a new stereo for your car or want to amp up your speakers, stop in or call Mike at Sound Of Peoria. He’s a really nice guy and it’s cool that he’s continuing this locally-owned business on Prospect Road!
