A little over a year ago I stumbled on to the Goldbelly website and was amazed at all the different food items that they ship nationwide.
I decided to start trying some of their offerings and cook them up right here at MBIP World Headquarters for a different kind of MBIP Tuesday Food Tour.
Most of you know that I lived in New York City from 1993 to 2012, so it only made sense to start with a food box called, “Taste Of New York.”
This box will last us about five weeks and then we’ll try another one.
So let’s go and have a taste of New York!

Taste Of New York - Week # 1: Sasso Cheese Pizza From John’s Of Bleecker St.
Here’s all the items included in our Taste of New York Box. Pizza, hot dogs, bagels and cheese cake…oh my!
This week we sample New York pizza at its finest hour! Plus we’ll have some cheesecake for dessert!
This is John’s Of Bleecker Street Pizzeria in New York City.
I’ve eaten there many times and I can’t wait to try the frozen pizza shipped from John’s in New York City to the MBIP World Headquarters in Peoria, Illinois!
We’ll take the pizza from the freezer…
Out to the counter and unwrap it.
This is their Sasso Cheese Pizza and the name comes from the founding owner of John’s: Giovanni “John” Sasso.
This is a classic New York cheese pizza and I’ve had it in the restaurant many times and I can’t wait to see how the frozen version compares to the ones I’ve had in the past.
The oven is pre-heated to 415 degrees…
And we’ll pop the pizza pie in and let it cook on the center rack for about ten minutes.
Well rotate it at the five minute mark.
While it cooks, let’s watch a video about someone sampling pizza slices in New York.
This guy didn’t go to John’s, probably because they don’t serve slices. At John’s Of Bleecker, you have to buy the whole pie, no slices!
Here’s the cooked pizza and it looks absolutely fabulous!
We’ll add some Tabasco sauce to it, slice it up and now we’ll let it cool down. I like my pizza at room temperature.
While we let it cool, let’s check out a review of John’s from Dave Portnoy. One bite, everybody knows the rules!
Wow, he gave it a rave review and I agree with his score!
Holy screaming shitballs, this is so delicious!
The toppings are simple: Mozzarella cheese, tomatoes and Italian seasoning, but it is so flavorful! The crust is really crispy, especially on the outer edges.
It’s not quite as good as a fresh pie just out of the coal oven at John’s, but this is as close as it gets without traveling to New York City!
i finished the meal off with a slice of Junior’s Cheesecake that was included in the Taste of New York box! So rich, creamy and borderline decadent!
This first meal from Goldbelly brought back so many tasty memories of New York City! I’m already looking forward to next week’s meal!
