Dan Fogelberg is certainly one of Peoria’s most beloved hometown heroes. The first weekend of October celebrates his career and body of musical work with two shows at the Scottish Rite Theater and one show at The Betty Jayne Brimmer Center for the Performing Arts.
Last Saturday afternoon there was a preview show featuring some of the musicians that will be performing at the Scottish Rite show at the Peoria Riverfront Museum and I was there and photos and information from the show are listed below.
Scroll down and check it out, it’s all part of the plan after all!
Here we are at the Peoria Riverfront Museum in downtown Peoria. I love the unique shape of this building!
Check out the sign, how did they know we were coming today? What a nice surprise!
Okay, let’s climb the stairway to The Peoria Riverfront Museum and head inside and see what’s happening on this lovely Saturday afternoon.
Watch out and don’t bump your head on that giant asteroid hanging down in the front lobby!
The musicians are getting set up, so while they get ready, we’ll wander around a little bit.
There’s some programs and flyers for both of the Fogelberg shows.
Friday, September 30th is the concert at The Betty Jayne Brimmer Center for the Performing Arts, but if you didn’t get a ticket already, the show is sold out. Wah, wah, wah, waaaah.
However…tickets are still available for the October 1st and 2nd shows at The Scottish Rite Theater. Those are selling quickly, so buy a ticket or two before they sell out!
There’s a cool music exhibit on display here at the museum that features album covers and information about the legendary Golden Voice Recording Company that was located in Pekin, Illinois.
You can read more information on the Golden Voice facecrack page and website.
Within the collection of albums is a Dan Fogelberg gold record that was presented to Golden Voice. This was in commemoration of selling 500,000 copies of his Souvenirs album. It has since gone on to be a double platinum selling LP.
Before the show I met Amanda, who just started working at the museum two weeks ago and Jenny Burnett Parkhurst came up and said hello. Jenny’s the Executive Director of the Performing Arts at the KDB Group and she’s also the daughter of Vic Burnett, the Weatherman who changed my life!
It was great to meet Amanda and wonderful to see Jenny again. She told me that Vic is doing great and I need to get in touch with him and have lunch with him again!
Okay, it’s just about showtime!
Traci O’Dwyer and Bob Parkhurst shared information about the show and introduced the musicians for today’s performance.
The show has begun! The performers are in a bit of a silhouette as the sun is so bright behind them, so I’ll try some other angles.
There we go, that’s a little better. The musicians included four vocalists, from left: David Brown, Ali Dixon, Rose Blume and Troy Hamilton. That’s Tim Harr on the acoustic guitar and they sounded wonderful singing from the Dan Fogelberg song catalog.
All five of these musicians are part of the Native Son show happening on October 1st and 2nd at the Scottish Rite Theatre.
The show is going to feature these five musicians, plus other singers, dancers and a 12 piece band. I can’t wait to see this celebration of one of Peoria’s favorite native sons.
This was an entertaining and fun preview and I’m looking forward to seeing the entire production and you should get tickets before it sells out!
