I’ve never attempted dry-rub barbecue in my life. I’ve also never grilled ribs.
So today, we’re going to put an end to this by creating and grilling a Dry-Rub Rib Sandwich With Onion Jam!
My dry-rub is going to consist of four spices: A Rib Rub, Organic Brown Sugar, Ancho Chili Powder and Cayenne Red Pepper.
I coated the ribs with Extra Virgin Olive Oil and then rubbed and pressed my dry-rub onto the ribs.
Now we’ll let them sit in the refrigerator for about three hours and let the Olive Oil and Dry-Rub soak into the ribs.
Three hours later…
We’ll take the ribs out and put them on the pre-heated grill, which is set to 250 degrees.
We’ll cover the grill and turn these several times over the course of about an hour.
We’re grilling these low and slow for maximum tenderness!
Now it’s time to make our onion jam to top the sandwich off with.
For this we’re combining I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter with Cholula hot sauce and Amber and Joe’s homemade hot sauce, a generous dollop of Rufus Teague Whiskey Maple BBQ Sauce and some diced onions.
I stirred them all together and now we’ll let the sauce simmer as the onions caramelize in this buttery, bbq mixture.
It’s back to the grill and I made a foil pan and poured some beer and Liquid Smoke into it.
I removed the ribs from the grill and put them in this foil pan and we’ll let them steam in this smokey beer mixture for about twenty minutes and then…
We’ll bring them inside and let them stand and rest inside of the foil.
While the ribs are resting, we’ll throw a buttered pretzel bun on the grill and let that toast up.
Alright, time to open up the foil package, this is like a BBQ Xmas!
Wow, the ribs look fabulous and they smell even better!
The ribs are beyond tender, the meat literally fell off the bones.
And I put the bones off to the side to chew on later!
Time to construct this Dry-Rub Rib Sandwich!
I’ve placed the rib meat on the toasted Pretzel Buns and then coated them with BBQ Onion Jam…
Here’s the open-faced Dry-Rub Rib Sandwich With BBQ Onion Jam.
It looks and smells amazing! Let’s dig in!
Wow, this has so many flavors happening! There’s a sweet/heat flavor from the dry rub and the BBQ onion jam is also packed with sweet heat and the caramelized onions add to this fantastic flavor mixture.
The rib meat is tender and juicy and this is one delicious open-faced BBQ sandwich!
And for dessert, I munched on the rib bones! What a fabulous grilled treat!
