I remember when One World Cafe opened up, because it was 1993, the same year that I moved to New York City. Back then it was more of a hipster coffee house vibe and through the years the place has expanded and become one of Peoria’s most beloved restaurants located on the corner of University and Main Street.
It’s not a place a lot of people equate with pizza, but they should because they have a large variety of pizza pies available on the menu.
Today, we’re meeting a special guest star on the blog. He and his wife moved away for a few years, but they’re back and I was looking forward to seeing him again and putting him back on the MBIP blog. Follow along and you’ll see who I’m talking about!
Here we are at One World Cafe and the artist of the month is Kimberlie Hines.
We’ll be featuring her work on this post after we get settled in.
Let’s go in and see what’s happening inside of One World Cafe on this lovely springtime day!
As I enter in I see a familiar back of the head…it’s none other than today’s special pizza guest star, Erik Reader!
Erik has been featured on the blog in the past, check out this post and this one, but he and his wife Danielle moved away from the area and there’s been a gap in his guest appearances.
Work is bringing Erik back to Peoria though and it’s great to have him back on the blog and to catch up with him again after a few years!
This is our pretty waitress, Carrie. It turns out that Carrie lived in New York for a while, so we traded tales about life in New York City.
The bar was opposite from where we were seated, and as you can see, they have a decent selection of beers on tap.
There’s the host station and beyond that is the dining room.
I love the selection of clocks in here, we may live in one world, but there’s many different time zones.
The dining room is cut up into two sections with tables and booths to sit at and enjoy your food and drinks.
I love that One World features and sells local art and has a featured artist every month.
As I mentioned in the beginning of the post, this month’s featured artist is Kimberlie Hines and here’s some of her beautiful paintings on display which are available to be purchased.
Meanwhile, back at our booth, our pizzas have arrived!
Erik ordered the Spicy Pig pizza and said it was very tasty. That name makes me think of Arnold Ziffel swimming in a sea of Tabasco Sauce…but that’s probably just me.
Erik highly recommended the pizza and he thoroughly enjoyed it.
I got the cheese pizza and it was very tasty and delicious. The cheese was rich and flavorful and I really liked the sauce. It was savory with a nice sweet after taste.
The only thing they lose points on is that the crust wasn’t quite as crispy as I like it. However, all in all, it was a tasty pizza pie and I highly recommend it!

THIS WEEK’S RATING
——
The Rating System
Any rating from 0 to 5.9 is a substandard pizza that you should definitely avoid.
A rating from 6 to 8.5 is a good pizza and gets the MBIP pizza pie recommendation.
A rating from 8.6 to 9.4 means the pizza is very high quality and you need to try it out as soon as you can.
Ratings from 9.5 to 10 represent the best pizzas in Peoria (in my opinion).
——
I’m giving One World’s cheese pizza a 7.7, which is a very good rating. If they could get the crust a little crispier it would rate even higher, but I suggest you stop in and try out their homemade pizza pie!
