The Smo-King Pit Bar-B-Que Restaurant in the Northwoods Mall has expanded and added a food court to their flavorful restaurant.
I’ve been meaning to check that out and sample some of their delicious barbecue fare and today is that day, so let’s head over to Northwoods Mall.
Here we are at the Northwoods Mall and those gumball machines are a reminder that we’re overdue for a count of these things! I need to get hold of Chad Wallace!
When you get to a spot at the mall where a giant suspended porcelain pig is staring down at you, you can only be at one place and that place is…
The Smo-King Pit Bar-B-Que Restaurant!
Check out the food court, I mentioned earlier, very nice!
I stepped in and said hello to Michelle, who owns and runs The Smo-King Pit with her husband Michael.
She said business has been great and that they’ve been serving up a lot of bbq!
We have a special guest star today and we placed our order and now you can meet this week’s luncheon guest star…actually that’s guest stars, we have dueling luncheon guests this week…
Here’s the guest stars, my friend Karina and her son Theodore!
Great to see them and Karina has a special announcement today and we’ll reveal that after we eat our bbq lunch!
There’s Aleshia serving up our lunches, we first met Aleshia back in 2017 when Chad Wallace and I did the aforementioned Northwoods Mall gumball count.
Great to see her again!
Karina got the Smo-King Potato, which is a giant baked potato topped with bbq beef brisket, shredded cheese, lettuce and green onions. It’s massive and looks very tasty!
Theodore got chicken tenders and a cup of mac ‘n cheese.
I got a combo plate with cole slaw, ribs, chicken wings and mac ‘n cheese. It looks absolutely fabulous, let’s dig in!
The Buffalo-styled wings and they were plump, juicy and had just the right amount of spice and heat.
The mac ‘n cheese was rich, creamy and delicious.
The ribs are prepared in a saucy St. Louis style and they are so tasty!
The sauce is tangy with a hint of sweetness and the ribs are juicy, succulent and fall off of the bone tender.
What a tasty and satisfying lunch!
And now for the special announcement from Karina: She’s hosting the Edtoberfest at The Fieldhouse Bar & Grill in Campustown.
This is a fun Chili Cookoff that’s happening on Sunday, June 5th. It’s the 2.5 Annual Edward P. Hennessey Scholarship Fundraiser.
Karina explained the backstory and here it is in her own words:
——
My husband, Eddie died May 9th, 2018 from an incurable type of brain cancer (glioblastoma multiforme). His birthday was May 8th and he had just turned 34.
Shortly after his death, I decided to create the Edward P. Hennessey scholarship at Bradley University. The scholarship is for a history major that displays financial need. I did this because Eddie and I both graduated from Bradley with bachelor’s in History. He was very passionate about history, education, and the entire learning process.
There are several ways that we earn money for this scholarship: First, there’s a Facebook fundraiser, click on the link here if you’d care to donate in advance.
Secondly, Ryan Hunt created the Koala Burger (with burger ingredients that Ed loved) at The Fieldhouse and part of the proceeds from its sale goes to the scholarship.
Third, Ryan and I will be hosting a chili cook off competition at the Fieldhouse on June 5th. All monies raised from the competition go directly to the scholarship. There are three categories for the competitors - most creative, spiciest, and people’s choice. We will also have raffle tickets and a silent auction.
