Monical’s Pizza has two locations in Peoria. There’s a newer one on Willow Knolls Drive, but the original Monical’s on Knoxville has been serving pizza pies and a full menu of other items since the ’70’s.
I’ve gone to the Willow Knolls location for a blog post in the past, but I haven’t been to the Knoxville location for over 25 years. Let’s go sample some pizza there and take a look at one of Peoria’s oldest-standing pizza parlors.
Here we are at Monical’s Pizza Restaurant on Knoxville. As I said, this place has been in this location since the ‘70’s. I remember coming here in high school.
I haven’t been inside this location since before I moved to New York, so let’s go inside and see how it’s holding up!
Wow, the dining room is totally different! It’s dark and very nice in here. It looks more upscale than it used to be. I chose to sit at this booth.
Let’s settle in and get ready to sample this week’s pizza pie!
Our waitress was a little shy and didn’t want her picture taken, so I brought in this group to take our order.
If you don’t get the reference, here’s a hint: They know what boys like.
Booths line the outer wall and there’s tables and chairs in the dining area.
Tables also line the back wall and there’s more places to sit in this side room over here.
There’s interesting framed photos all over the walls, here’s three showing a pizza being made.
This seems to be missing something…what, oh what can it be?
There, I fixed it! This brings back Animal House memories!
I started off with a couple of appetizers.
I got an order of Pepperollies which are freshly baked rolls stuffed with pepperoni and four cheeses.
They’re served with zingy Marinara sauce and they’re soft, rich and delicious!
I also got a small order of chicken wings. The wings are spicy and tasty.
Now on to the main course of the day!
This week’s pizza pie!
Monical’s has a variety of styles of pizzas to choose from, but I like the thin and crispy cheese pizza.
I love the little pizza spatula that’s supplied to remove a slice from the pie!
We’ll let it cool for a few minutes before we try it out.
The crust is paper thin and extra crispy, just the way I like it.
The cheese is rich and creamy and it’s a decent and delicious pizza pie.
My only complaint is that they don’t put much sauce on it. It’s mainly crust and cheese and it’s tasty, but I like just a little more sauce on my pizza pie.

THIS WEEK’S RATING
——
The Rating System
Any rating from 0 to 5.9 is a substandard pizza that you should definitely avoid.
A rating from 6 to 8.5 is a good pizza and gets the MBIP pizza pie recommendation.
A rating from 8.6 to 9.4 means the pizza is very high quality and you need to try it out as soon as you can.
Ratings from 9.5 to 10 represent the best pizzas in Peoria (in my opinion).
——
I’m going to give Monical’s pizza a 7.3.
It’s very good pizza but it just needs a tad more sauce in my cheesy opinion.
