Live, from Peoria, Illinois, it’s Saturday Night Take-Out starring this week’s host, Amir Foods.
And now, please welcome, all the way from Frye Avenue, Amir Foods!
Last Saturday I was hungry for fried chicken. I wanted to try some place I hadn’t been before and did a Google search for “fried chicken peoria Il” and you can see the top three places that came up in the screen shot above.
Years ago I tried to go to Big JJ’s Fish & Chicken and they wouldn’t let me take pictures in there and I’ve been to Pizza Ranch a couple years ago and wasn’t in the mood for their Jesus chicken.
But the third entry intrigued me. I’d never heard of Krispy Crunchy Chicken but the name isn’t what intrigued me…
It’s the address, the place is located on Frye Avenue! How perfect is that for a place selling fried chicken?
It says it’s located in Amir’s, so did more Googling and found their website. Okay, we’re off to Frye Avenue for fried chicken. Maybe we’re going to discover a hidden gem today!
Here we are at the corner of Wisconsin and Frye. The building looks a little rough, but you can’t judge a book by its cover.
Let’s get out of the MBIP Mobile and check it out.
The sign features fried chicken, so let’s go in and see what’s happening inside of here.
It’s kind of like a convenient store in here and it looks like you get the chicken in the back.
So I went back, checked out the menus and was all set to order when I saw a sign saying you need to order at the front counter.
I ordered up at the front counter and the man gave me a ticket and told me to take it to the guys in the back and they’d get the order ready. Sheesh!
Well, at least I’m getting some exercise in here!
So I went back and turned my order in and after about fifteen minutes it was all set to go.
And through the continuing miracle of these here interwebs we’re magically beamed back to the new MBIP World Headquarters Kitchen and Tasting Area.
And for those of you keeping score, I’m still putting this place together and getting some new furniture. I’m hoping by the beginning of June it’ll be all set up and then I’ll give a photo tour of the new headquarters!
Okay, I thought I’d break tradition and instead of a giganzo can of beer, I’m going to have a can of Crook & Marker spiked lemonade. Cheers!
For an appetizer I got an order of hot chicken wings. These were plump, juicy and cooked in a spicy buffalo sauce and were very tasty. We’re off to a good start here!
I also got an order of chicken gizzards. You don’t see these that often and when you do, you know you’re at a decent fried chicken destination.
When I ordered them I was asked if I wanted them “dressed” and was told that “dressed” meant covered in ketchup, mustard and pickles and that sounded kind of gross, so I told him I’d take my order plain.
Here they are and they look really good, but I do think they need some sort of dipping sauce, so I’m going to make my own dressing sauce for these gizzrards.
I started off with Butch’s Marinade sauce and then added some Tabasco sauce and some Sandwich Pal Sweet and Spicy Mustard. Then I mixed them all together and…
Dipped a gizzard into the mix and it was delicious! Now on to the main course, the fried chicken!
I got a two piece fried chicken dinner with french fries and it looks fantastic!
I dipped the fries into my homemade dipping sauce and it was a tasty delight!
Now let’s check out the fried chicken!
Wow, this chicken breast is huge! It’s like the Dolly Parton of chicken breasts!
This is really delicious fried chicken! The breading is crisp and savory and the chicken is juicy and so flavorful! I really have discovered a fried chicken hidden gem at Amir Foods!
And it tastes wonderful in the dipping sauce! Cluck yeah!
If you’re hungry for some fabulous fried chicken, stop at Amir Foods, it’s a little challenging ordering your meal, but it’s worth it!
