Last Friday marked the 54th anniversary of the release of the Velvet Underground’s debut album, “The Velvet Underground & Nico.” It was released on March 12th, 1967 to very little fanfare despite the distinctive Andy Warhol album cover and connection to the pop artist.
As the years wore on it became a very influential album inspiring genres of music including punk rock, art rock, goth, grunge and indie music.
Rolling Stone magazine ranked the album number 13 on its list of the “500 Greatest Albums of eAll Time.”
