A year ago on this date things were looking kind of bleak. Then on the weekend it was announced that things would be shutting down. And that started a year that we’ve never seen before but somehow we all adapted to the idea of a national quarantine.
Well things are looking better now and we’re starting to open up again. One place that’s re-opened is The Peoria Riverfront Museum and I went there last Sunday.
Below are photos from my trip to the newly opened museum and three of the exciting new exhibits on display.
Enjoy the photos and stop by and support Peoria’s wonderful Riverfront Museum!
Here we are at the Peoria Riverfront Museum in beautiful downtown Peoria!
The lobby looks impressive as always and there’s Nathaniel giving us a thumbs up from behind the ticket-taking booth.
Okay, there’s always a ton of fun things to look at in there, but for this post we’re going to concentrate on three exhibits.
And just like Jackie Gleason said…awaaay we go!
The first exhibit we’ll look at is 101 Treasures of the Peoria Riverfront Museum Collection.
There’s a lot to look at in this collection, let’s take some close-up photos of some of the items on display in here.
Wow, there’s so much on display in here and it boggles your mind just walking through this exhibit. And I love boggling my mind so this is a lot of fun for me.
This exhibit features treasures from the museums collection including pieces of art from Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso and Frank Lloyd Wright among many other treasured pieces of art.
Richard Pryor, one of Peoria’s most famous native sons is honored in the museum.
Photos that have never been on display from the nationally loved comedic actor are featured in this exhibit.
Jerry Milam took these photographs of Richard Pryor in 1962 at the Arthur Murray Dance Studios on Main Street in downtown Peoria shortly before he moved to New York City to start a legendary and historical life.
The third and final exhibit is an amazing work of sculpture by Preston Jackson. An artist that resides here in Peoria but is known nationwide.
The work is titled, “Bronzeville To Harlem” and Preston has spent decades working on it and it’s on a permanent loan exclusively to The Peoria Riverfront Museum.
The sculpture is a work or art that you can walk through and actually be a part of as you travel through the different destinations in the sculptures.
This is amazing original artwork and you can read more about it by clicking here.
The gift store here is a fun trip unto itself.
There’s all kinds of fun and unique gifts in here including items from local Peoria vendors like Lettering Works, Ken Zurski, Elizabeth Klise and Smiley Graphix.
Here’s Molly holding my bag of gifs which will be revealed next Wednesday on Good Day Central Illinois. Check the MBIP facecrack page next Wednesday for more information on that!
In the meantime, stop by and check out all the fun and interesting art and items on display at the Peoria Riverfront Museum!
