You’ve probably heard the news by now, an iconic Peoria restaurant, bar and friend to musicians, Sky Harbor has closed its doors. Sky Harbor is such a unique and classic place so it’s very sad news indeed.
It is for sale though and if someone buys it and leaves it just the way it is, I would promise you lots of free publicity here at MBIP!
I went and took some photos of the building the other day and here they are.
For Sale
If you’d like to buy a piece of Peoria history, please call Chris Rothan at 309-868-2841. I would love it if someone bought Sky Harbor and started a new chapter for this distinctive restaurant and piano bar.
I’ve done over a dozen posts on Sky Harbor since I started the MBIP blog back in 2012 and I thought I’d share some of the photos here and pay tribute to a classic and iconic Peoria restaurant.
Sky Harbor
Sky Harbor has a distinctive look like no other Peoria restaurant. The stone walls, the hanging chandeliers, the blue leather banquettes and the piano bar gave this place a unique and warm retro atmosphere.
The Klusendorf’s
Daryl Klusendorf’s Dad started Sky Harbor decades ago and Daryl, Mrs. Klusendorf and his son Ryan kept the legacy alive.
The Food
You can’t have a restaurant without tasty and delicious food and Sky Harbor had a wonderful menu and fabulous dinners.
Here’s just a sampling of some of the delicious dishes I sampled through the last seven years!
The Music
Sky Harbor was a friend to a lot of local musicians and one that stands out is Jimmy Binkley. A piano playing legend who played his last set at Sky Harbor.
In 2016 there was a tribute here at Sky Harbor for the legendary piano man and you can see that post by clicking here.
Thanks to all the wonderful musicians who played and entertained here through the years!
The People
Sky Harbor was always filled with interesting people and here’s a small sampling of people that I met and hung out with through the last seven years.
Cheers to the Klusendorfs and to Sky Harbor. Thanks for the fun times and for the memories!
