Tonight I’ll be performing the latest Marty Monologues at The Bohannon Basement Theatre. The show is titled: “2020: I Want To Be Sedated - A Trio of Fire Truck Tales,” and this is a socially distant show, there’s only going to be four of us in the room. And we’re going to be more than six feet apart.
My friends Amber and Joe are going to be the DJ’s and they’ve picked out music to play before the show and during the breaks when I make a sweet and salty snack mix. Then we’re doing a special “Paperback Writer” performance to close the show. We’re filming that and it’ll be up on the blog next Wednesday along with photos from the show.
The very first Marty Monologues happened on September 30th, 2018. I was scared out of my wits and terrified to do it. This was uncharted territory for me and I didn’t know if I could pull it off. Well, much to my amazement, people enjoyed it and complimented me on what a fun show it was. So I’ve continued to do them and tomorrow will be fifth edition of The Marty Monologues. I’ve performed the show eight times in Peoria, Chicago and New York City.
Doing this has been a real exciting thing in my life. And when you’re my age it’s tough to find new and exciting things to do. In honor of tonight’s performance, below are eight links to online articles and videos featuring The Marty Monologues.
And then there’s the weekly MBIP Coming Attractions!
The Marty Monologues: The Final Update! - Here’s what I posted the night before the first show. There’s also links to past updates about this show. I was so fucking scared when I posted this!
Sunday Night @ The Apollo Theatre: The Marty Monologues - This is a blog featuring photos from the first show at The Apollo Theatre and the after-party at Kenny’s Westside Pub. What a crazy night!
Tarter Source: The Marty Monologues with Marty Wombacher - This was an interview with my friend, Steve Tarter back when he was writing for the PJ Star.
“The Marty Monologues” Return to the Apollo Theater - Jenn Gordon and Nathan Irwin, the hosts of “Out and About” program on WCBU radio, interviewed me about the second Marty Monologues show. This one was called, “I Was A Pre-Teen Hippie” and I performed the show in Peoria, Chicago and New York all in the same week!
Mary Monologues - 45 Minutes of Fame - Poster Design - Chelsie Tamms from Lettering Works has done all the artwork for The Marty Monologues and she’s done genius work. The logo has really helped brand the show by incorporating a drawing of me as part of the logo. It really personalized it without being obnoxious. She writes about designing the poster for the third Marty Monologues, which was called, “45 Minutes Of Fame.” The posters for the other shows are also shown in this blog post.
Good Day Central Illinois: The Marty Monologues @ Bradley University - Last January I did the Pre-Teen Hippie show at the Marty Theatre at Bradley University. Yes, Bradley was so impressed with myself and the show, they named a theatre after me! Not really, but it sounds good! Here I am being interviewed by Mark Welp, Shelbey S. Roberts and Molly Naslund on Good Day Central Illinois.
The time machine in Marty Theatre - Valerie Vasconez wrote a wonderful review of the Bradley show in the college newspaper, The Bradley Scout.
I Was A Pre-Teen Hippie - Sweet and Savage Tales About Growing Up in the ’60’s - The entire show performed at the Apollo Theatre in Peoria, Illinois. This was filmed and edited by Steven Marx.
Monday: I got a frozen pizza Saturday because I was rehearsing for the aforementioned Marty Monologues show and didn’t want to spend time in a restaurant getting take-out. Tuesday: I’m going to take Tuesday off to put together the photos and video from Tonight’s Marty Monologues performance.
Wednesday: We’ll have photos and a video from tonight’s Marty Monologues show!
Thursday: I’m going to make a Thanksgiving dinner. I’m not sure what I’m having, but I’m pretty sure it’ll involve Jiffy Pop.
