This week, we travel outside of Peoria to shine the pizza pie spotlight on a legendary pizza parlor in Bloomington, Illinois.
Tobin’s Pizza in Bloomington, Illinois has been serving their homemade pizza pies and other delectable treats since 1963.
Six years ago, MBIP Wheelman and pal, Scott Turley and I took a road trip to sample their well-known pizza. Six years ago? Holy shitballs, it doesn’t seem that long ago at all!
Okay Sherman, it’s time to do your thing!
Sherman, set the Wayback Machine for July 15, 2014…
Whoomp, here we are, six years ago in the original MBIP World Headquarters studio apartment, two doors down from where I’m at today.
That knock on the door can only mean one thing, MBIP Wheelman and pal, Scott Turley is here for another exciting MBIP road trip. This time he was armed with a gift six pack! I thanked him, we sampled the beer and then we were on the road, headed to Bloomington, Illinois!
Here we are at Tobin’s Pizza on Main Street in Bloomington, Illinois. As always, Scott leads the way in!
The front has a dining room and tables, but there’s a side room that is all booths, we decided to sit in the booth room. It made me think of this guy.
Our pretty waitress, Amanda took our order and posed for a photo. I love her smile!
The history of Tobin’s Pizza Parlor is shown here in these photos and stories framed on the wall.
We started off our dinner with an appetizer order of spicy chicken wings. They had a nice zingy sauce and were plump and tender.
A wonderful start to our pizza pie dinner!
Scott came armed with his own Cholula hot sauce. Smart move on his part!
Here’s Amanda with our pizza pies! Beautiful! And the pizzas look really good too!
Believe it or not, these are personal sized pizzas, they don’t skimp on size at Tobin’s!
I got combination pie with extra cheese, ham, sausage, onion and bacon. Scott got the vegetarian pie.
The pizza here was so tasty and delicious! It really has a unique flavor.
The crust is between thin and thick and has a nice texture to it.
The toppings are fresh and plentiful but the real treat here is the homemade sauce on the pizza. It's got a savory kind of smoky flavor to it.
Both Scott and I agreed that it was a wonderful and original pizza sauce.
Cheers, beers and hot sauce from Tobin’s Pizza!
