This week we’re shining the saucy pizza spotlight on an Italian family-owned restaurant that’s been in business here in Peoria for over 30 years!
I visited Leonardo’s Pizza back in April of 2014 and got not one, but two pizza pies!
Oh Sherman, I think you know what to do here…
Set the Wayback Machine for April 1, 2014 and…
Whoosh, here we are at Leonardo’s Pizza! Let’s go in and start this week’s saucy journey!
Here’s Wiley who took my pizza pie order and brought me am ice-cold bottle of beer. What a guy!
Wiley let me take a look back in the kitchen and there’s the massive pizza oven our pies will be baked in.
I love the dining room here! It’s so sparkly and fun!
Plastic grapes hang from the ceiling and there’s a lit-up tree in the middle of the room. I love it in here!
This is the booth I chose to sit at. I think I made a fine decision.
The condiments and dinner plate are all set up. Looks like it’s just about…
Pizza time!
I got the thin crust and the deep dish pizza, both with toppings consisting of onions, sausage, salami and cheddar cheese.
The thin crust is not cracker thin and it has a nice texture to it. The sauce is tasty and has a wonderful zippy flavor to it. The salami stands out among the toppings as salami isn’t usually offered and it adds a nice spicy flavor. This was a delicious slice of pizza pie!
I have to confess, I’m not much of a deep dish pizza eater, but having said that, this was a flavorful slice of pizza! They use chunks of tomato on the deep dish pizza instead of sauce and I would’ve preferred sauce, but overall this was very tasty and satisfying!
Those two slices left me feeling stuffed, so I got a couple of to-go boxes and had pizza for breakfast, lunch and dinner the next day!
