This week I’m doing a spin on the classic Philly Cheese Steak sandwich. My version is made with Steak-Umm and it’s called Chili-Cheese Steak.
Let’s get cooking!
The ingredients for this week’s Marty Meal are (clockwise from left): Stonefire Mini Naan Bread, Schnuck’s Chili Seasoning Mix, Velveeta Jalapeño Slices, Green Giant Veggie Tots. a red onion, Schnuck’s Cream Cheese, Extra Sharp Cheddar Cheese, Heinz Chili Sauce and Steak-umm Angus Steaks.
And we’ll also be using some ingredients already purchased in the MBIP Kitchen.
As always, we’ll start with the most important ingredient, a Bud Light tallboy. Cheers!
This meal will be fairly quick to put together and the item that will take the longest to cook are these Green Giant Veggie Tots. I was curious as to how these will taste, they use cauliflower instead of potato for these tots!
It says to bake them for 15 to 20 minutes in a 450 degree pre-heated oven. So I heated the oven up, put them on a baking sheet sprayed with Pam and into the oven they go!
Philly Cheese Steak sandwiches are topped off with a melted cheese sauce, so I’m going to make my own version of that. I started off with some melted butter and then added the cream cheese and the shredded cheddar cheese.
For extra flavor I also added a dollop of Sandwich Pal Sweet and Spicy Mustard, Sweet Ray’s Buffalo Wing Sauce and some Texas Pete Hot Sauce. Then I stirred it together and tried it and it tastes great! It’s got a rich cheddar flavor with a little bit of a spicy kick.
We’ll let that simmer on a low heat while we prepare the rest of the meal.
I’ve chopped the onion and we’ll grill that in this pan.
Now we’ll prepare the bread for the sandwich. I was going to get a hoagie bun, but I saw this mini Naan bread and decided to use that instead. I love Naan bread but I’ve never made a sandwich with it. I decided that we can have this be an open face sandwich.
I buttered the bread and put it under the broiler till the outside was almost burned. I want the outside extra crispy and the burn will add a rustic flavor.
Philly Cheese Steaks use sliced Provolone, but I’m using the Velveeta Jalapeño Slices for a more bold and kicked up flavor.
I’ll let the cheese melt under the broiler and now it’s time to make the steak for the sandwich.
I decided to use Steak-umm because it really matches the thin sliced steak used in a Philly Cheese Steak sandwich. Plus It’s really tasty!
Okay these sheets cook up fast and once they were all cooked I added the grilled onions, some of the chili sauce, chili powder and just a dash of the chili seasoning
I tried a forkful and it’s really tasty! I could just eat it like this, but it’s time to build the sandwich and plate this week’s Marty Meal!
I tried the Green Giant Veggie Tots first and I’m sorry to say that these aren’t very good, even with the cheese sauce on them. I cooked them extra long hoping to get them nice and crispy but inside they were mushy and had a weird taste to them
I won’t be preparing these again, let’s move on to the sandwich and hope that can wipe this bad taste out of my mouth!
Well, it certainly looks a lot better than the veggie tot!
The outside of the sandwich is crisp and the bread inside is soft, cheesy and buttery. And the Chili-Cheese Steak looks and smells delicious with the creamy cheese sauce poured on top.
Let’s try it out!
Wow, this is so tasty!
There’s spicy chili flavor coming from the sliced steak and the creamy and rich cheese sauce on top compliments it perfectly!
The bread is crispy on the outer perimeter and soft and buttery inside. The Velveeta Jalapeño Slices add a nice rich kick and this is one delicious sandwich.
It’s almost like a cross between a sandwich and a slice of pizza!
Well, now I have some very sad and gut-wrenching news. Oscar is not happy with the MBIP blog!
Above is a comment he left on last week’s Thursday Minute Marty Meals. Normally I’d probably ignore this criticism, but this is Oscar for god’s sake! The all-knowing and omnipresent Oscar!
Oscar is saying that I’m objectifying women! I guess he’s referring to the titillating photo montage last week of women smoking cigarettes. Well, I didn’t think just posting photos of women makes me an objectifier, but if Oscar says so, I must be! Oh the shame of it all!
Well, I’ve decided if I’m an objectifier, I’m going to be an all-inclusive and equal opportunity objectifier and so this week, we’ll objectify men! And here we go!
There you go, Oscar, tune in tomorrow, I’m doing another McDonald’s segment that you’re sure to love!
