Last Wednesday I was a guest on Central Illinois’ finest morning news and entertainment program, Good Day Central Illinois with Mark Welp, Shelbey S. Roberts and Molly Naslund. We were going to be talking about a post I did about Trefzger’s Bakery and how they’re now serving beer.
Well I thought since we were going to be talking about Trefzger’s Bakery it would be fun to surprise them live on air with a specially made GDCI cake from Trefzger’s and have a live TV version of the popular MBIP ongoing episodic post, “Let Them Eat Cake.”
And so that’s what I did.
Here we are at Trefzger’s Bakery, let’s go in and pick up our cake.
Check out the window of cakes, I think I see our’s back there. We need to call out for Kayla, the resident MBIP Cake Artist and Baker to present it for today’s Let Them Eat Cake episode…
Whoomp, there she is!
Kayla is holding the cake she designed for today’s episode and it looks fantastic as always. I gave her a photo of Mark and Shelbey and she turned that into frosting on the cake and topped it off with sweet edible signs saying, “Live from Peoria, Good Day Central Illinois.” That is so cool and I can’t wait for them to see it!
Thanks to Kayla for another wonderful and artistic cake, she never fails to amaze me with these sweet creations!
Here we are at the WYZZ/WMBD/CI Proud studios. One of these days I have to find out how they got that “3131” address. It always makes me think of Van Halen.
When you enter you go down a hall to their lunchroom.
There’s actually a waiting room off from the lunchroom that I’ve never seen anyone in. Let’s go inside and take a look.
I’ve never seen anyone inside of this room and it’s always kind of creeped me out. Those two chairs look comfortable and there’s a nice painting of the Peoria skyline hanging on the wall. Too bad no one ever enters this room! It’s actually kind of sad, so let’s just keep moving along here.
There’s some vintage WMBD photos on the wall over here.
And here’s the Good Day Central Illinois team, live on the air!
This is the time when GDCI Producer, Andrew Harvey comes and tells me it’s just about time to go on the air. I’ve been doing this show for a couple of years now, but I still get an adrenaline rush right before you go on. It’s like free drugs and one of the perks of doing the show!
Here we are on the set of Good Day Central Illinois. Shelbey and Mark are on one side reporting the news and there’s the newest addition to GDCI, morning Meteorologist, Molly! That green screen behind is a weather map when you see it on TV.
There’s the set where we’ll do the segment from and my view from where I’m sitting.
I was going to take a couple of pictures during the segment, but once we started, I forgot to do that, so imagine the four of us talking about Trefzger’s and then I told them that we had a surprise from the bakery and Andrew brought the cake out and surprised them with it
Here’s Shelbey and Mark with the cake. They loved it and thanks again to Kayla for doing such a great job with it!
Shelbey took a photo of the cake and then she and Mark posed with the cake.
I took a parting shot of the GDCI team and then…
Molly went back to her weather map…
And I stopped and chatted with Julie, the friendly receptionist who threw me out of the building a few years ago! She’s actually the reason I ended up doing segments on GDCI and you can read all about this here and here.
We’ll see you all tomorrow!
