Okay, this week we’re headed off on a mini road trip to Pekin…huh, what’s that…
Oh jeez, it’s Steve Johnson and Cheryl Thompson, the Pekin Chink and Chinklette from the past.
Look guys, I got in trouble a while back for writing the word, “retarded” on here, so I better shut the door on your political incorrect asses right here and now. Let’s try this again…
Okay, this is more like it, it’s Scott Turley, MBIP pal and Wheelman. Let’s hit the road to Pekin!
And we’re off on the long and winding road to Pekin.
We have reached our destination of the West Dublin Pub on Court Street in Pekin. Scott pointed out that they must know we came armed with the MBIP Camera!
There’s a brick porch area in the front, but we went inside to the bar area. As you can see, Scott’s already made himself at home there.
Jamie was the pretty and friendly bartender on duty and she quickly served up a 16 ounce bottle of Pabst Blue Ribbon. We’re off to a wonderful start here!
Here’s the dozen beers on tap behind the bar.
As you can see from this beer menu, they have a large selection of beers to choose from in here!
Here’s the obligatory random shots from inside the restaurant and bar area.
Suddenly…ketchup!
My OCD went off on the last bottle being out of step with the others and it was hard to walk away from that but after about three minutes I just let it go. Sometimes you just have to walk away and try to forget these things…but I never do.
Meanwhile, back at the bar…
Our appetizer dish is served up.
My friend and Hypnohumorist, Terry Grawey said we had to try the mushrooms when he found out we were headed here and this was a spectacular suggestion!
These are the Dublin Pot O’ Gold Shrooms. They’re jumbo mushrooms that are hand-breaded in beer batter and served with house-made Dublin dipping sauce.
These may just be the best mushrooms I’ve had since the ’70’s!
Now it’s time for this week’s chicken dish.
This is a unique chicken entree, it’s a Chicken Cottage Pie.
This is an Irish recipe of mashed potatoes, celery, carrots, scallions and of course chicken. You have to dig in to find the chicken, so let’s grab a scoop of this delicious looking chicken pie.
Wow, this is a really tasty and satisfying chicken dish!
The mashed potatoes are creamy and rich and the chicken chunks are tender and juicy. The bread takes it over the top and it’s from Trefzger’s Bakery, so you know it’d delicious.
There’s Scott digging in and we both agreed that this was a nice twist on a chicken pie recipe.
For dessert, Jamie made us Tullamore Shake Ups.
Cheers and yes, I see what you’re doing there Scott!
Chicken Rating
Four Dixie Chickens—I think that West Dublin Pub may be the only Irish bar and restaurant in Pekin and I’m pretty sure they’re the only one serving up Chicken Cottage Pie. I highly suggest you stop by and try this unique and tasty chicken pie!
