This marks the seven month spot of this fowl and clucked up chicken tour! Six months to go and then it’s all over!
I wasn’t going to do another chicken and waffles stop, but I got a tip from my friend, Matt Wetzel that Donnelley’s Irish Pub is not only open on Sundays now, but they have a chicken and waffles Sunday special entree. We’ve stopped there already on this tour, but I’m curious about their chicken and waffles entree and so we’re going to go back to sample this dish!
I make the rules around here and I can do whatever the cluck I feel like, so it’s off we go to Donnelley’s Irish Pub for Chicken and Waffles!
Donnelly’s is now open on Sundays from 11am to 9pm and here we are. Because of the recent time change it’s still light out and I’m no fan of this brightness out here! The patio is open for outside dining, but we’ll go inside due to the aforementioned brightness!
There’s newspaper articles about the founders of Donnelly’s Irish Pub and before that, the Shamrock, Terry and Molly Donnelly. Their son Ryan runs the place these days and as you can see, there’s a daily happy hour and lunch specials as well.
Speaking of the Shamrock, there’s a photo of the neon Shamrock on top of the original Shamrock tavern. Memories!
Okay, let’s go inside and start the 28th week of chicken. I heard a rumor that there’s two special guests inside of here, so let’s go check that out!
There’s the lit up, spacious dining room and seated at a booth against the wall are this week’s special guest stars, my brother Tom and my Dad Jerry!
We go out almost every Sunday night and I usually take the night off from blogging. But since this is the only night to get the chicken and waffles at Donnelly’s, they’re going to have to put up with myself and the MBIP Camera for the evening!
This is our pretty and friendly waitress for the evening, Maria! She’s delivering our drinks, took our dinner orders and then took the MBIP Camera to get a shot of all three of us on our Sunday night out on the town. As you can see, I’m the designated drinker of the group, cheers!
I love the Christmas lights that shine in here all year round, it gives the place a festive ambiance. There’s a back room behind the dining room that’s used for private parties.
The bar area is up front and it’s a spacious and comfortable room with two large TV’s to catch all of the Sunday sports action!
They have over 50 imported and hand-crafted beers, plus a large wine selection, Irish whiskeys and single malt scotch.
There’s bartender Martin pouring a glass of wine behind the bar. I complimented him on his wonderful first name and his fine bartending skills!
Uh, oh, looks like it’s just about time for dinner, time to get back to the booth!
I got back just in time, Tom and my Dad said Maria said that dinner is on the way…
And here it is! Tom got the Dublin Herb Chicken with a baked potato, broccoli and a dinner roll. My Dad got the Wimpy Special, a cheeseburger and fries, now on to the star of this evening’s blog…
The Chicken and Waffles Sunday Special!
This is the fifth chicken and waffles stop on the tour and here’s links to the other four: EatandEvolve, Childers, Obed & Isaacs and the 50’s Diner.
The way I like to eat chicken and waffles is to sample the two components separately at first.
The chicken here is really tasty! It’s fried and lightly battered with seasoned and crispy batter. Inside the chicken is juicy and tender.
The waffle is similar to the one we had the other week at the 50’s Diner and you can tear the section out and eat them with your hands, caveman style. The waffle is warm, fluffy and delicious, a sweet treat! Now it’s time for the real test…
This is where you combine the chicken and waffles and let your tastebuds take a ride on the street corner where sweet meets savory and what a delicious and tasty ride it is!
You should definitely make a Sunday stop at Donnelly’s and try this weekly special out!
Of course, a night at Donnelly’s is not complete without gazing at the Urinals of Ireland. What a pisser!
Chicken Rating
Four Dixie Chickens—Right now the Chicken and Waffles is only available at Donnelly’s on Sunday evenings and I suggest you take advantage of the new Sunday hours (11am to 9pm) and try this tasty dish out for yourself. Make it a sweet and savory Sabbath!
