The tenderloin at Schooners is one of Peoria’s best known sandwiches, in fact it’s also known outside of Peoria.
It was featured on The Food Network about six years ago in 2013 on a show called the “Sandwich King.” Phil Luciano reported about that and you can read all about it by clicking right here.
That same year I featured it right here on MBIP when I was doing my first food tour, 20 Weeks of Tenderloins. Scroll down to see photos from that day and there’s a link to the original post below.
There’s the famous Schooners tenderloin. It always cracks me up how the bun is dwarfed by that giganzo tenderloin! I got mine with onions and then…
I added some mustard and pepper to this tenderloin that could be shared by at least three people!
The Schooners tenderloin is a humongous breaded patty of pork goodness. It’s pounded thin and the breading is crispy and light and it’s definitely one of Peoria’s best known and beloved sandwiches.
My only suggestion is maybe serving it with two buns instead of one! And speaking of the bun, it’s buttered and toasted, which is a nice touch!
