Live, from Edwards, Illinois, it’s Saturday Night Cheeseburger starring this week’s host, Ludy’s Kickapoo Creek Saloon and featuring special guest stars, Jessica, Sam and Bella!
Now please welcome all the way from Edwards, Illinois, this week’s host, Ludy’s Kickapoo Creek Saloon!
A couple of weeks ago I saw this post on facecrack that Ludy’s had just hit their 25th anniversary. Wow, that’s hard to believe!
I decided to get them an anniversary gift and then go and have a Saturday Night Cheeseburger there.
I sent away for this book on Amazon and it taught me a valuable lesson, always look inside of the book before you buy it.
The cover says, “Made In 94 Year Of Awesomeness.” So I assumed it would be a collection of things made in 1994, the same year that Ludy’s opened.
Well it arrived and inside are just plain notebook pages! What a stinking gyp! I mean what’s the purpose of calling it, “Made in 94” and then just having blank pages inside?
I wrote an apology about the shitty present and made my way to Edwards, Illinois for this 25th anniversary edition of Saturday Night Cheeseburger at Ludy’s Kickapoo Creek Saloon!
Here we are at Ludy’s Kickapoo Creek Saloon!
This house was converted to a saloon back in 1986 and in 1994, Charile and Barb Ludolph took it over and renamed it Ludy’s Kickapoo Creek Saloon.
In 2004, daughter-in-law, Lynn took it over with the help of her husband, Dan and they’ve put together a friendly and great crew who work here, we’ll meet some of them soon!
I went in and saw that there was a good crowd at the bar but I managed to find an empty seat and settled in for the evening!
Jessica was tending bar and she remembered me taking her picture for a cheeseburger post I did back in May of 2017! Great to see her smiling face again!
I looked at the menu and I had to order their famous cheeseburger I honor of the 25th anniversary!
There’s the half dozen beers on tap and this sign notes that while Ludy’s is called Ludy’s Kickapoo Creek Saloon, it’s technically located in Edwards, Illinois. Kickapoo is right next door!
You can buy a bag of peanuts in the shell behind the bar, that’s a nice touch!
I love the custom neon signage in here!
There’s the dining room behind the bar and the obligatory framed Phil Luciano Journal Star Dining Out review. Phil notes in this review that Ludy’s was his first ever food review that he wrote for the Journal Star!
This map shows where visitors to Ludy’s have come from, as you can see, people have come here from about every city in Illinois!
Here’s the back room that has dining tables, a pool table, darts and gaming machines if you’re feeling lucky!
Meanwhile, back at the bar, it looks like it’s just about cheeseburger time!
There’s Sam serving the cheeseburger and fries!
We met Sam on our 13 Months of Chicken tour back in June of 2018 when we were on week number four!
The cheeseburger and fries look amazing and I’m starving like you know who!
I sampled the fries first, I ordered them extra-crispy and they were cooked to perfection, crispy and delicious!
Now on to the main course!
I added a liberal dose of mustard to the burger and took a side shot of it. I got it with bacon and grilled onions and it’s lucky I have a big mouth so I can take a bite of this massive cheeseburger!
You can read more about it in the review below, but it was a fabulous cheeseburger and if you’ve never had one, they’re open for lunch and dinner, so I suggest you get over there and try one pronto!
At the bottom of this sign I saw the words, “Try a Ludy’s Jiffy Slap” and that intrigued me!
Sam told me it was a specialty house shot made with Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey and di Amore Raspberry liqueur.
Basically it’s a peanut butter and jelly shot, so I ordered one, Sam mixed it up in the special shot glass that has a divider in it and it was delicious! The perfect dessert!
After the shot, I gave Sam, Bella and Jessica the shitty anniversary present and they got a laugh out of my letter of apology!
Ludy’s has been known for their incredible cheeseburger for 25 years now!
I got mine with American cheese, crisp, smokey bacon and grilled, buttery onions and it was delicious!
The cheeseburger was juicy and flavorful and the bun was toasted and bakery fresh! A very satisfying and tasty cheeseburger dinner!
SN Rating
Four Galloping Gourmets—I’ve had other sandwiches from their menu and they’ve all been fabulous and tasty, but if you haven’t had the Ludy’s cheeseburger experience, you need to get out there and try one!
