Live, from Peoria, Illinois, it’s Saturday Night starring this week’s host, The Red Barn with special guest star, Thomas the bartender and musical guests, Thetah, Super 88 and Encounter At L-5. Now please welcome this week’s host, The Red Barn!
It’s Saturday night and there’s no better place to spend a Saturday night than the Red Barn. It’s not only one of Peoria’s oldest bars, it’s also known for hosting live, local music! Tonight there’s three bands playing live and in honor of that I’m going to start the night off with a three course dinner at the Red Barn.
It’s not too crowded yet because the bands aren’t going to start for over an hour, which gives us time to enjoy the Saturday night dinner.
The Red Barn Three Course Dinner
Right on cue, there’s Thomas, who’s a veteran bartender here at the Red Barn, with the first two courses of the meal: A bottle of Budweiser and a cup of nuts from their classic Little Nut Hut that was featured in this post a few weeks ago.
Wow, check out the fancy condiment box! And the table is all set up for the third course of this week’s feast at the Red Barn...
It’s a piping hot Butch’s sausage pizza! I was so hungry I scarfed down two pieces and then realized I needed to take a picture of the pie. This brings back memories of the MBIP Butch’s pizza party from 2015. I can’t believe that was over three years ago! Anyhoo, the pizza was delicious as always, nothing like a fresh baked Butch’s pizza at the Red Barn!
Faces From The Crowd For The Show
There was a nice crowd of people that showed up for this week’s live music show at the Red Barn. This is just a sampling of some of the faces in the crowd and thanks to all of them for showing up and supporting live, local music here in Peoria!
It’s Showtime!
Here’s the back room and stage at the Red Barn. The first band is setting up and they posed for a group shot. This is Thetah and the band consists of, (from left): Kayla, Brett and Mandi. If Kayla looks familiar it’s because she’s the official MBIP cake artist from Trefzger’s and she designs all the cakes for this MBIP series!
Thetah
Thetah was the first band of the evening and they started the show off with their unique and symphonic sound. They describe their music as “Interstellar siren songs pulsating with the rhythm of subconscious waves.” You can find out more about Thetah by checking out their facecrack page and you can buy their album ‘024’ right here. This is a video of Thetah performing live at Peoria Pizza Works, another fine establishment that supports live music here in Peoria.
Super 88
Next on the bill was Super 88, and they were featured on the blog when they played on the bill at the Gonn anniversary show at the Limelight in 2016. They are a raucous and rowdy rock and roll band. I didn’t check their amplifiers but I’m pretty sure they go to 11! Check them out on facecrack and you can buy their album right here. They’re veterans of the local music scene and here they are live at the American Legion 15 years ago.
Encounter At L-5
Encounter At L-5 is a three piece band and they describe their music as: “Caught up in the beams, of radiant things and a steel machine.” The music is psychedelic, loud, dense, spacey and melodic with feedback punctuating the sounds now and again. Here’s their facecrack page and you can purchase their latest album here and they also have a limited amount of cassettes, for those of you that remember what a cassette is! Here’s the band live at Shifters six years ago.
Here’s a final shot from the back of the room. All three bands put on a great show, much thanks to all of them for a wonderful evening of spectacular live music.
And thanks to the Red Barn for their support of live music here in Peoria! Here’s some future dates that you should try and attend if you can.
