Last night we continued a tradition here on MBIP that’s become one of my favorite holidays: My friend Amber’s annual birthday party! It all started back in 2014 when Amber invited me to her birthday party. Since it was on a Saturday night, I decided to take a microwave dinner and cook it at the party and goof about that being my Saturday night dinner at Amber’s birthday party. Well when I got to Schnuck’s I went kind of berserk looking at all of the microwave food and got all excited and ended up with about six bags of the stuff. I took it to Amber’s birthday party and we had a fun microwave buffet. The next year we had a pizza delivery derby and last year we had a half a dozen cakes from Trefzger’s and Elvis (Dave Stovall) showed up to sing happy birthday to Amber! So what will happen this year? Well scroll on down and you’ll find out as we begin The Fourth Annual Amber Birthday Extravaganza on this Thristy-Third Friday in September!
The Cake
When you need a birthday cake in Peoria, there’s only one place to get it and that place is Trefzger’s Bakery, Peoria’s oldest and best known spot for all of your bakery needs. And if you want a specialty cake, you need to contact the resident cake-artist, Kayla! She’s the MBIP official decorator of cakes and that’s her holding up Amber’s cake with some help from Christopher. The cake is unbelievable and we’ll get a closer look at it as the party gets underway! Thanks for the great work, once again, Kayla, you’re a sweet genius!
The Place
Every other year we’ve had the party at Amber’s house, but this year we thought we’d branch out and we got the back party room reserved at W.E. Sullivan’s. This room is perfect for a party of anywhere from six to twenty-five people. There’s a comfortable couch lining the wall, bookcases, a fireplace and there’s a handy spot for a food buffet that you’ll see in a little bit. The bottom photo is Amber’s happy birthday poster that was designed and printed at Technicraft. Thanks to Colleen Kimball for overseeing that project, it turned out great!
That’s Lauren who owns W.E. Sullivan’s with her husband Billy. Lauren really helped with the planning of the party and food and if you’re planning a birthday party or a holiday party in the upcoming months, call Lauren and book this room! It’s perfect for a cozy, fun party! There’s Malorie who’s going to be our server for the evening, I love her smile!
The Party Favors
When It comes to party favors, you really only need two things: Funny face coasters and fake mustaches. But we also had mini soap bubble things and some wacky-ass glasses thrown in for good measure.
The Guest Of Honor!
Here she is, the pretty birthday girl herself, Amber with her fiancee, Joe! Great to see them and this means the party is just about to start. But first, let’s meet our special guest star for the evening...
The Yuge Surprise Guest Star
It’s none other than the Donald! He’s not someone I would normally want at a party, but I figured if we brought him here and stuck him in the corner he wouldn’t have a chance to blow the world up before the party ended. So you just stay in the corner Donald...stay, stay...good boy!
The Guests
The party has officially begun and here’s the guests arriving. From top: 1. Moonbaby and Scott 2. Steve and Kathy 3. Danielle and Brent 4. Chuck and Diane 5. Adam 6. Steve 7. Jon 8. Ryan 9. Becca and Andrew and 10. Clare. (Becca, Andrew and Clare’s photos are archival shots because I forgot to get an official arriving at the party photo. Hey they were the last to show up, so cut me some slack over here, sheesh!)
Funny Face Coasters
What’s more fun than funny face coasters?
Fake Mustaches
Fake mustaches!
Light-Up Rings
This was the official group activity of the evening and it went off splendidly! Camera, action...lights!
Presents
You can’t have a birthday party without presents and here’s Amber opening up some of her birthday goodies!
Dueling Presents
One tradition we do at Amber’s birthday parties is dueling presents between Amber and Danielle! Danielle’s birthday is just a couple weeks before Amber’s, so I don’t want her to get all jealous and stab Amber at the party because then we’d have to get extra cake for the EMT workers. I always have a lot of fun picking out their gifts and my two favorites this year were a book about diseases that masturbation can bring on and engraved ball sack knife cutters!
Food
Lauren helped with the menu and the food was delicious! We had an assortment of tasty flatbreads, fried cheese curds and a plate of pretzel bites with melted cheese to top them off! It was delicious and our hats off to the chef!
The Royal Trefzger’s Birthday Cake Made And Designed By Kayla
Okay, time for the Trefzger’s cake designed by Kayla. The Royal Tenenbaums is one of Amber’s favorite movies and two of the key characters in the movie look just like Amber and Joe! In fact they went as these characters for Halloween a couple years ago and the resemblance is uncanny! So I asked Kayla if she could make a Royal Tenenbaums cake and this is what she came up with! It’s unbelievable and the picture on the cake is made out of frosting! This is the coolest cake ever and notice the mouse down there, that’s from the movie as well, great detail work! Fantastic design, Kayla, thanks so much for the wonderful birthday cake! We all loved it!
The Rest Of The Party
Here’s some shots from the rest of the party, it was a blast! Thanks to everyone for coming and making it so much fun!
Happy Birthday, Amber!
Happy birthday to you, Amber! I love you and looking forward to next year’s party already! Thanks again to everyone for coming to the birthday celebration and thanks to Lauren and Mallory for helping out with the party! We’ll see you all tomorrow!
