This summer marks the 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love that happened back in 1967. I feel lucky to have lived through that summer because there will never be another summer like it. In honor of this anniversary I’ve posted six Summer of Love links below and then there’s the usual MBIP Coming Attractions for next week below that.
Suddenly That Summer - This is a great feature article in Vanity Fair about the heart of the Summer of Love, Haight-Ashbury in San Francisco.
Remembering the 'Summer of Love' of 1967 - A photo gallery of the summer of 1967 from the NY Daily News.
George Harrison visits Haight-Ashbury in San Francisco - George Harrison’s ex-wife Patti Boyd talks about their somewhat horrifying visit to Haight-Ashbury in 1967. Sometimes it wasn’t easy being a Beatle wife!
1967 - Welcome to Hashbury, capital of the hippies - More photos and memories of Haight-Ashbury A.K.A. Hashbury, the home of the hippies back in that crazy summer.
San Francisco, 50 years on from the Summer of Love - The Guardian revisits Haight-Ashbury 50 years later.
Top Songs of the Summer of Love - “Light My Fire” is probably the most famous, but my personal favorite is “Waterloo Sunset” by The Kinks.
This is a birthday week here at MBIP next week! Monday we celebrate Sean Kenny’s birthday at (where else?) Kenny’s Westside Pub! Tuesday is the only non-birthday post of the week but it is a special one because we’re announcing the new MBIP food tour. This is going to be a ten week tour and find out what it’s all about this Tuesday! Wednesday we’re having a birthday Shop Hop at Relics, one of my favorite gift stores in town! Thursday we’re starting a new feature called, “Let Them Eat Cake,” where I get a custom-made cake from Trefzger’s Bakery and take it to a business here in town and force the whole place to stop working and eat some cake, because cake is better than work and we should all learn this lesson! This debut post is going to happen at a business that recently had an anniversary, so it falls in with this birthday week. And for once I know what’s going up here on Friday, it’s going to be the MBIP Fifth Annual Scott Turley Birthday Extravaganza! It’s happening at the River Beach Pub in Chillicothe on Thursday. We’ll be there around 3PM, so stop by if you’d like to be part of this birthday week! Have a wonderful and thunderful Sunday and we’ll see you all tomorrow!
