Live, from Peoria, Illinois, it’s Saturday Night starring this week’s host, Lou’s Drive-In with special guest stars, Colleen, Natalie and the girls behind the counter at Lou’s Drive In! Now, please welcome this week’s host, Lou’s Drive-In!
There it is, Lou’s Drive-In and here we are driving up to it! It’s kind of close to closing time, but there’s a still a good crowd here on this holiday weekend!
Here’s another angle of the drive-in and the iconic Lou’s sign that’s been there for decades. I love it when the sign is lit up because it always takes me back to when I was a kid and I knew that summer had arrived when Lou’s was open!
I always sit at the same seat over here at the Lou’s Island inside of the parking lot. There’s some of the classic signage overhead and some of the Lou’s girls behind the counter waiting on hungry customers.
Colleen’s serving me up a mug of Lou’s root beer with a pretty smile and I took a quick look at the menu and ordered the first Lou’s meal of the summer season!
There’s the kitchen window with some orders that have been filled. More orders are on the counter waiting to be taken to cars out in the parking lot. and there’s a pile of trays waiting to be filled back up again.
The signs here always remind me of the boardwalk at Coney Island. There’s the other side of the island and a carhop is taking an order over there in the lot.
Lou’s is famous for root beer, hot dogs and popcorn! That’s Natalie Vonachen scooping up an order and it turns out she’s Rocky Vonachen’s niece. Time to cue this up!
Meanwhile, back at my seat, Colleen is serving up our Saturday Night meal at Lou’s!
I got a classic combo to start off my first meal of the summer season here at Lou’s, an order of onion rings...
And a chili cheese dog. The onion rings were crispy and tasty and Lou’s has one of the best chili cheese dogs in town. The hot dog is tasty and the chili is savory, spicy and has just a little zing and the cheese adds a nice creamy richness to the mix. The bun is steamed and bakery fresh. It’s so good!
After dinner I got a shot of Colleen and three of her co-workers inside of the Lou’s Island.
The sign is shut off and Lou’s is closing for the evening, but it’ll be open for about four more glorious months, so be sure to stop by and enjoy this historical Peoria drive-in!
I had a mug of Lou’s home-brewed root beer, onion rings and a chili cheese dog. It was delicious and summer can now officially begin!
