This week spring was sprung on Peoria and that can only mean one thing...Emo’s is open! Yes, the creepy clown on top of the wooden structure that sells ice cream and chili dogs is back in business for another season in the sun! In the past I’ve gone to the opening morning celebration at Emo’s, but I was busy this week and kind of forgot about it till I saw Alyssa Paldo talking about it on TV. So I thought we’d go celebrate the opening tonight and I’m going to be joined by two special guest stars, so let’s get going and ring in spring with them and Emo the creepy yet lovable clown over at the corner of War Memorial and Prospect!
Here we are at Emo’s and the sun is setting on Peoria’s most creepy yet intriguing wooden clown with a flashing red nose on top of a roof. It’s always great to see this guy all lit up, because it means summer’s around the corner and winter is over! Hooray!
It’s a little cold out here, but there’s still a crowd here for ice cream, milkshakes and chili dogs. And if you remember from the introduction I promised two guest stars and they’re right over...
Here! It’s my friends and frequent MBIP guest stars, Joe and Amber! Okay, now that we’re all here and accounted for, it’s time for dinner at Emo’s!
As we got into line my eyes wandered over to the condiment buckets and I saw a horrible thing: Hunt’s Ketchup! If you’ve been reading my blogs for awhile you’ll know I hate, detest and just really have a strong disliking for Hunt’s Ketchup and any other ketchup that’s not Heinz ketchup. Here’s a couple of blog posts from the past I’ve written on this subject: Salad Dressing Is Not Ketchup and Ketchup (From The Peoria Airport.) My new goal in life is to somehow get a case of these restaurant packs of Heinz ketchup and deliver them to Emo’s. Stay tuned for that! Now back to our ordering!
Check it out, I’m lucky enough to have not one, but two pretty Emo’s women take my order! And there’s Wendy, my favorite Emo woman in the world! I love her blonde hair and she told me she’s heading off to Mexico tomorrow, which is actually today, have a great vacation, Wendy!
There’s Amber and Joe ordering and now let’s take a look behind the scenes with the special MBIP Behind The Scenes Emo Camera!
Special Emo Behind The Scenes photos! It looks like our order is just about ready...
And whoomp, there it is!
We decided to sit at the cement tables off to the side of the building and it’s a little cold out here. So I guess our hot dogs will actually be, chilly dogs! Oh ha ha ha...okay, sorry about that. Sometimes, just like The Four Tops, I just can’t help myself!
Here’s what we got for our first feast from Emo’s: chili cheese fries, cheese fries and a chili cheese dog, a barbecue sandwich, and another chili cheese dog and in honor of the industrious and illustrious, Elaine Valley, we got a chili-cheese tamale pie! It was all delicious and a nice way to start both this weekend and spring in Peoria!
Amber noticed this dog with angel wings, so I went and got a photo and her human told me that her name is Chunk! I wish I could’ve gotten a shot of her face, because she’s really cute! And so is this little puppy!
Soon another puppy by the name of Baron appeared on the scene and it was a full-blown puppy frenzy at Emo’s! I love it when this happens!
And then as night fell, it was time to say goodnight to Mr. Creepy Clown. One of the many great things about Emo’s is that it’s just a quick trip down the road to...
The Navy-Marine Club! We haven’t been here for quite a while, so we thought we’d get a liquid dessert in here!
I’m a full-fledged, card-carrying member of this club and for once it only took me one try to open the door up!
It’s always nice and dark in here and I love the neighborhood clubhouse atmosphere! And there’s one of my favorite bartenders in the world, Mark, serving up an ice-cold can of beer! Great to see him, now let’s take a quick look around in here and see if anything has changed...
Well, of course nothing’s changed, that’s why I love it in here! The snack table is set up against the front wall and a Butch’s pizza has just come out of the pizza oven and it looks delicious! There’s the trio of taps behind the bar and a row of gaming machines lines the far wall in the front room here.
Meanwhile, back at the bar...
All three of us noticed the Saturday chili dog sign on the wall and thought the same thing: Saturday chili dog contest between The Navy-Marine Club and The Red Barn! Our plan is to do this on a Saturday coming up in June! Thanks to Mark for the hospitality at the Navy-Marine Club and to everyone at Emo’s for a fun and delicious Thursday evening. And last but certainly not least, thanks to Amber and Joe for joining me and hanging out, it was a blast, as always! We’ll see you all tomorrow!
