Live, from Peoria, Illinois, it’s Saturday Night starring this week’s host, Khoury’s Cuisine with special guest stars Nathalie Khoury and Ben (A.K.A. B Löwd) Lowery! And now, please welcome this week’s host, Khoury’s Cuisine!
It’s the end of another month and that means it’s time for another vegetarian meal in our twelve month mission of meatless meals. And as always, we’re being driven by the man who had this idea for a vegetarian series, Ben Lowery! Ben is a DJ who performs and records under the name, B Löwd and you can listen to his music by clicking on this link: B Löwd on Soundcloud. And if you’d like to catch him DJing live, he’s got three gigs coming up at Rail II on Farmington Road, here’s links to those gigs: Rail II Presents Shlump, St. Patty’s Dub and Zessions. Okay, here we go up University and there’s the drive-by shot of tonight’s veggie destination, Khoury’s Cuisine.
I’ve driven by Khoury’s Cuisine many times and have always been impressed with the building but I’ve never gone inside and sampled the food. Well, tonight’s the night, so let’s get inside!
It’s really nice in here and it’s not too crowded as we’re here pretty near closing time. As Ben and I selected a table the other guest star of the evening arrived...
It’s my friend Nathalie, looking very pretty, who’s last name just happens to be Khoury! Nathalie’s Uncle and Aunt: Sayed and Lina Khoury are the owners of this restaurant. They’re not here tonight, but Nathalie worked here during her teen years, so we’re going to let her do the ordering for tonight’s vegetarian meal.
There’s Ben and Nathalie looking at the menu and I can’t get past this drawing of Sayed with a tower of gyro meat he’s slicing. I love this drawing! I’ve also heard that their gyros are the best in town, we won’t try them this time since we’re having a meatless meal, but Nathalie and I are going to come back for the MBIP sandwich tour and I think I’ll try it then, stay tuned for that! But now it’s time to order, I’m starvin’ like we all know who over here!
That’s Nathalie’s cousin, Sharbel up at the counter with Kenzie on the left. Kim is also on duty and there’s Nathalie placing our order with Sharbel. Everything is falling into place now!
Here’s a shot of the dining room from the other side of the room. And they do cater here and Nathalie told e that the photos on the two pictures are actual dishes that were made here for different events that were catered by Khoury’s Cuisine. They look so good, I can’t wait for dinner!
So let’s get back to the table and hopefully it’ll arrive soon!
Ask and ye shall receive! Here’s Kim with just part of our dinner order. Yeah, there’s more to come!
Here’s the whole spread! Nathalie ordered a great sampling of some of the vegetarian items from the menu! From the top, there’s Tabouli with freshly baked pita bread, French Fries, Hummus with more pita bread, Spinach Pie and a Falafel Sandwich. It’s quite a feast and now it’s time to dig in!
This was all so delicious! The Mediterranean dishes are made from family recipes and prepared fresh to order. I loved the spinach pie and the French Fries were some of the best I’ve ever had! You can read more about it in the review below, but this was really a fantastic meal and I didn’t even miss meat in it at all! It was so flavorful and tasty! There’s Nathalie enjoying the meal and uh, oh, it looks like Ben has slipped into a food coma! We’ll let him sleep it off as we get some dessert!
There’s all kinds of freshly-baked and homemade desserts here including: Baklava, Lady Fingers, Honey Cakes, Walnut and Date Maamoul and Carrot Cake. Nathalie recommended the Carrot Cake and homemade cookies and I wasn’t about to argue with that suggestion!
The dessert was so good, a sweet end to a fabulous meatless meal! Thanks to Ben and Nathalie for joining me for dinner and to everyone at Khoury’s Cuisine for the nice hospitality and wonderful and delicious food! We’ll see you all tomorrow!
We had a great sampling of Mediterranean delights from Khoury’s Cuisine! They’re all listed above and while I enjoyed them all immensely, I think my favorite was the Spinach Pie. The crust was really light and flaky and the filling was savory and tasty, really popping with flavor. The French Fries were some of the best I’ve ever had, crispy on the outside and fluffy and hot on the inside. Everything was really a taste treat and the dessert was a sweet way to end a wonderful meal! Thanks to Nathalie for ordering, you picked a fantastic meatless meal for us!

Three and three quarters Galloping Gourmets—The vegetarian selections on the menu are really tasty and freshly-prepared to order. But if you have a hankering for meat or non-traditional Mediterranean selections such as, Catfish, Pork Chops, Philly Steak and cheeseburgers, they can also be found on the extensive menu at Khoury’s Cuisine! I’m looking forward to sampling more from that menu soon!
